Leaves for salad, dandelion root for tea, plantain leaves as a poultice, mullein flowers for tea. Many other plants we consider weeds can be eaten or used for tea. However, safety first! Why eat weeds anyway? A few reasons come to mind: they’re free, fresh and nutritious. Remember, one person’s weeds is another one’s dinner!

I have been passionate about living a healthy lifestyle for many years! In college, I started out learning about “natural foods” working at Rainbow Foods in Minneapolis, MN. At that time, the Natural Foods department was more an accessory – tucked away at the back of the store. The original idea was that it would be served in a bowl made from the squash itself. But alas, the squash split apart after baking. This was still a success served in a glass bowl. One winter squash I used a Kabocha but a butternut would also be tasty, seeds removed and set aside. One vegetable bouillon cube (Rapunzel brand).

June 4, 2012 by discoveryroad. 8220;Greens” (kale, chard, spinach, collards, mustard, dandelion, etc.) have such high nutritional value I tend to put them in everything – even burgers. 1 pound ground turkey thigh (free range / natural). 1 pound 90% lean ground beef (pastured / organic). 4 – 5 dandelion leaves (substitute any “green”. 4-8 chives, including “root”. 5-6 stems cilantro (could use fresh parsley or basil). 1 – 2 tsp. garlic powder.

Laquo; A taste of the Mediterranean. Know the difference: biodegradable vs. compostable. August 9, 2011 by discoveryroad. Recently, legislation was passed here (what are the rules in YOUR city/state? That all yard waste must be placed in either a bin specifically for yard waste or in compostable bags. It seems that people were angry over this. Compostable bags are not as strong; cost more money; etc. Apparently it worked: Minneapolis doesn’t need to comply until 2013. What about the biodegradable bags?
