Adventures in Public History. Friday, November 13, 2009. Memory and Public History. Yet another week in which I had strong reactions to the readings. I greatly disagreed with a great many of Alison Landsberg's interpretations of the literary works she uses as examples of memory in her book, Prosthetic Memory. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). http://www.sarasadventuresinpublichistory.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Adventures in Public History. Friday, September 18, 2009. This week, we read Roy Rosenzweig and David Thelen's The Presence of the Past. The Introduction and Chapter 12 of Michael Frisch's A Shared Authority: Essays on the Craft and Meaning of Oral and Public History. And Hyounggon Kim and Tazim Jamal's article, "Touristic Quest for Existential Authenticity." Once again, these readings left me with a lot to think about. Them Food for thought. Adventures in Public History: Digital History: The Final Frontier?

http://www.sarasadventuresinpublichistory.blogspot.com/2009/11/digital-history-final-frontier.html

Adventures in Public History. Sunday, November 22, 2009. Digital History: The Final Frontier? As an aspiring archivist, the notion that paper and books won’t be around in physical form is fairly unsettling. Even just as someone who loves books, the idea is discomfiting. There is nothing like the smell of an old book, or the tactility of turning the pages of a spellbinding novel. Can’t get that from your Kindle. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Thoughts of an Uppity Grad: Yari's Baby Clothes: Object History

http://uppitygrad.blogspot.com/2010/09/yaris-baby-clothes-object-history.html

Thoughts of an Uppity Grad. Wednesday, September 15, 2010. Yari's Baby Clothes: Object History. Yari's baby clothes had a long history before Yari. Textile manufacturers, clothing designers, factory workers, truck drivers and retailers all influenced the life cycle of this ordinary onesie. Its owner changed multiple times and each altered the path of the object without knowing that it would eventually reach a young mother and her newborn baby girl. Yari's daughter has since grown out of her first clothin...

Thoughts of an Uppity Grad. Sunday, September 20, 2009. The Significance of Mad Men (and Reading Commentary #2). Some people would call me a television junkie. I prefer to think of myself as a connoisseur of fine viewing. That being said, tonight was a big night for junkies and connoisseurs alike as we all celebrated another fine year of programming with the 61st Annual Primetime Emmys. My thoughts are turning more toward a certain "Outstanding Drama" winner:. Articles analyzing character's drinks. There...

Travels through history: October 2009

http://stevenhistory.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Follow me as we explore various issues in Museums, Public History, and American History. Friday, October 30, 2009. Through interpretation, understanding; through understanding, appreciation; through appreciation, protection. Freeman Tilden's quote about the importance of interpretation fifty years ago still rings true today. If people do not understand why something is important, they often do not appreciate it, and therefore don't see the need to protect it. Links to this post. Tuesday, October 27, 2009.

http://stevenhistory.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Follow me as we explore various issues in Museums, Public History, and American History. Monday, September 27, 2010. Today I am offering my own hypothetical design plan of the First Person Museum exhibit. It will be based on materials produced by First Person Arts. For a base I have used Alice Parman’s “Exhibit Makeovers:. Do-it-yourself Exhibit Planning”, from the AASLH. Every object has many stories hiding just below the surface. History is just another story in this mission). Whenever possible interac...

Follow me as we explore various issues in Museums, Public History, and American History. Sunday, November 22, 2009. Readings of the week. What a busy week! The digital turn is not a fad, it is the future, but the work required is specialized and difficult. Follow me as we explore various issues in Museums, Public History, and American History. Tuesday, September 21, 2010. This week I am changing gears slightly. Last week I discussed the history of both stuffed animals and promotional items, but due to length constraints, I will only be focusing on stuffed animals from here. However, they would probably be able to determine that it is a stuffed animal. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Interested in this blog? Check out my colleagues.
