Tokyo, late spring. Our last trip to Tokyo was in late autumn; this time it was late spring. A little warmer, but not quite reaching a muggy summer yet. Here are some photos from our trip in March, plus another post to follow! Kept nodding off on the shinkansen from Narita Airport – but saw miles and miles of rice paddies, and much greenery amongst houses and business and even what looks like an ANA air transportation base. We stayed in Shinjuku this time, and spent some time wandering around Golden Gai.

Quiet times in Tokyo. The thing about Tokyo is although its a huge city with plenty of fast walking required, there are plenty of places inbetween just to wander and browse. And to sit down and have a coffee to recover for a few minutes…. Succulent gardens in corners of Harajuku. Up numerous sets of stairs to search the shelves of Super Potato. Sunday walk in Daikanyama. Latte art in a chain coffee shop? A view to remember – Mount Fuji rising up from the clouds as we flew back home. Tokyo, late spring.

Kenneth Johnson, Metalsmith. My work combines by background as an anthropologist and my training in the wellness field. A good deal of my jewelry and larger pieces incorporate symbols from indigenous and historical societies around the world. I work mostly in copper, due to the centuries-old belief in the health benefits of copper. My current projects incorporate chasing and Eastern Repoussé, etching, and champlevé enameling.
