one illustrator's perspective: February 2013
http://karynservin.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
My life as a professional illustrator. Friday, February 22, 2013. I have been so busy with projects lately that I haven't had a chance to share some of the awesomeness. Let me tell you about this one to kick things off. The day of the shoot I had 48 boards, just in case I screwed up on the 16 panels we needed to shoot me drawing. Long story short, after two full days of shooting, I had used only 16 of the 48 boards. Yes, that is correct we had no screw ups. Well none that required a new board...This year...

My life as a professional illustrator. Monday, February 27, 2012. Versatility should be an asset. Ok, I am onto something. Something that has been nagging me for, oh 20 years. Fast forward to my first experience getting an agent. What did she want, a 'Style'. Fortunately I did pay attention in college and provided a big portfolio of cohesive work. Did she land me jobs, sure, here and there including an 'almost' with Disney. 1) Project Runway ; who is lauded on the show? Tuesday, February 21, 2012. I hate...

My life as a professional illustrator. Tuesday, August 20, 2013. The beginning of summer kicked off with an overwhelming load of work. I went to Turkey in July and since I have been home work has been manageable and allowed me to enjoy summer. What a stroke of luck. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Lemon vector art on iStock. one illustrator's perspective: breathing and regrouping
http://karynservin.blogspot.com/2014/10/breathing-and-regrouping.html
My life as a professional illustrator. Wednesday, October 22, 2014. Wow, what a year. I finally have a lull so wanted to play catch-up and regroup. This year I have had a broader range of work then years past. This year I got to animate my line illustrations for MacAfee in a series of videos about cyber security. I also had a great time at a recent event doing Graphic Recording. Who knew that a conference on the legal challenges for a business could be so interesting? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

one illustrator's perspective: November 2012
http://karynservin.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
My life as a professional illustrator. Tuesday, November 27, 2012. The feeling of a job well done. As crazy as this sounds, it has been almost one year exactly since I was contacted by the Oregon Dairy Council to create a poster for their dairy princesses. Yes, this is what we call a long haul. Monday, November 5, 2012. I recall how I struggled at first to work without using black. Then it came to me and the colors started to sing and the absence of black was not an issue. I didn't need it at all...Recen...

My life as a professional illustrator. Wednesday, May 15, 2013. I am not sure the value of freebies but I do participate when they come along. A few months ago I submitted artwork for the Windows gallery for downloadable wallpaper. My art was selected and I submitted an entire gallery of designs that are all food related. Love that my artwork is out there, not sure if it benefits me as an artist or not. So, want to see my collection? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Lemon vector art on iStock.

My life as a professional illustrator. Monday, October 22, 2012. Out of the blue two months ago I got a phone call from a high school student who wanted to come 'job shadow' me for the day. The student wanted to be an illustrator. I said yes, but warned it would be a boring day. Why did I come to that conclusion so quickly? Friday, October 5, 2012. Because each project IS a performance review. Being a freelance illustrator/designer is one of the best jobs I can imagine. Being self-employed has many m...

My life as a professional illustrator. Wednesday, June 4, 2014. Holy crap, a busy 10 months. Yes the blog title says it all. Holy Crap, it HAS been a busy 10 months. I know my last post from February noted the 6 months of crazy preceding, well other than that one day in February, I have been buried yet again. NOT complaining!
