Wednesday, January 4, 2017. We made it through one more year! We traveled to Cleveland for a few days over Christmas, and caught up with the extended family. Ansel has figured out that the "Santa" who visits Great-Grandma's house is actually just a dressed-up Uncle. Ansel is never one to keep a secret, so Chloe was quickly disillusioned of the Santa myth as well. Luckily, our new cousin baby JoJo is now part of the family to keep belief alive! Wednesday, November 30, 2016. We drowned our sorrows in birthday cupcakes and Thanksgiving pie. I celebrated my first decade as a mother (! As Ansel reached double digits this month. Ansel had a successful party with friends at the newly-opened trampoline park. They particularly enjoyed the trampoline dodgeball court, and the kids left sweaty and happy. Birthday cupcakes I made for Ansel to share with his classmates. George Rapp is in the center. At least he makes for an easy costume.

Sunday, July 31, 2016. No one can say we didn't make the most of our summer! Kayaking on Lake Monroe. Chloe marched in a soggy 4th of July parade with the Monroe County Girl Scouts. Jon and Ansel celebrated the 4th by setting off fireworks. It doesn't get much cuter than Chloe and Niko. Selfie at Lake Zug. An adorable streetscape in the old town of Zug. Monday, October 3, 2016. Except for the continued balmy weather, fall is in full swing here in Indiana. First and fourth grades are going strong. Ansel is currently completing 2 long-term projects: one on a local popcorn store (see below), and one requiring the completion of 5 Indiana hikes. The first involved his parents learning to edit video (poorly), but the latter was no challenge for the H-T family! Spring Mill also has a cave open to the public, much to Ansel's delight. Monday, November 7, 2016. Jon, meanwhile, was in the Philippines, to celebrate his dad's life and to bring him to his final resting place. Jon was glad to spend some time with his extended family. Many thanks to Grandma and Grandpa P for coming to Indiana to help with childcare during part of Jon's absence. On our way to take family photos. A busy month meant few outdoor adventures. But there is always time for soccer! My big adventure of the month: I participated in a saw-whet owl banding project.
