Prodigal Pod | Liminal Passages
https://liminalpassages.wordpress.com/2012/09/02/prodigal-pod
Notes from Between Worlds. September 2, 2012. On Friday, I went home for the first time in a week. Door protocol at my house is yelling “Don’t stab me! 8221; for the benefit of my paranoid sister, and if the boys are inside, they run to the door yelling, “POD! 8221; So imagine my surprise when this time, they were followed by the Squidge, fully walking, who also managed a “pod.”. Intimidating/dehumanizing them is a common practice and has been for years. Also, Kali doesn’t generally get to cleaning...

Notes from Between Worlds. January 23, 2012. 8220;Dammit, Dad! 8221; In which I do things I should have gotten out of my system in high school. 8220;What are you doing this weekend? The short list in my head went something like this:. Make rice balls for this week’s lunches. Move stuff to storage. Check on apartment applications. Keep looking in case plans fall through. Be pestered by Godsons. So what do I tell my father, on the other line, who is calling because he wants me to house-sit for two days?

Fare well | Liminal Passages
https://liminalpassages.wordpress.com/2012/12/17/fare-well
Notes from Between Worlds. December 17, 2012. This will be my last post. I will leave the blog as a testimony to the love I bear for my God-Children, who I now fear I will never see again. This is a radical departure from everything I have written before, and it is not my intent to libel anyone–it’s just what happened. I will continue to write, though; just not here. And not about the family that once was mine. I can’t bear the pain. It will not be my last work. Lastly, I am sorry to leave you, dear read...

Farts–why growing up is a lie. | Liminal Passages
https://liminalpassages.wordpress.com/2012/08/17/farts-why-growing-up-is-a-lie
Notes from Between Worlds. August 17, 2012. Farts–why growing up is a lie. Recent discussion with my friends has taught me that it’s true nobody ever really becomes a grownup. There are entire books written on this subject, as well as people’s desperate attempts to try and prove that they are grownups, which almost always backfire somehow. Allow me to demonstrate using farts. He asked, mortified. Shopping with both of them is mildly better, because I have someone to suffer with me, and it’s fun to drag a...

Notes from Between Worlds. July 21, 2012. Heeere, piggy piggy piggy! I smell bacon through the PHONE! This is a somewhat typical expression to come home to when my cop-hating sister is on the phone with her other sister Danni (also known as coffin-bait.) Danni drives the cadaver-wagon for one of the local funeral homes, and as a consequence, has to deal with the police once in a while. These days, you can even get a Trek urn, although it’s less canopic jar and more Locknar. I was writing about daycare.

Thanksgiving in two movements and three tongues | Liminal Passages
https://liminalpassages.wordpress.com/2012/11/26/thanksgiving
Notes from Between Worlds. November 26, 2012. Thanksgiving in two movements and three tongues. Uji drove, which meant we relied on my skills as a navigator to avoid the Guide Meridian on the way to my parents’ house in the North end of Nowhere. Here is a brief list of topics discussed:. De-horning cattle, and getting occasionally gored by one. Silos, sileage, and getting stuck in the silo. Electric fences, and what happens if you touch one, if the line goes down and creates a charge on the kitchen faucet...

Cyber Monday (in the ’90’s verb sense) | Liminal Passages
https://liminalpassages.wordpress.com/2012/11/26/cyber-monday-in-the-90s-verb-sense
Notes from Between Worlds. November 26, 2012. Cyber Monday (in the ’90’s verb sense). Now that Thanksgiving is over, there is nothing standing between us and Christmas (well, there’s Yule, but nobody pays attention to that unless they’re pagan or British.). This year is a little different. My step-brother is stationed in Italy and will be either on-base or at his in-laws. This year, I’ll be joining Uji’s family for Christmas. GRINCHINESS IS OUT OF THE QUESTION. Uji is nearly as excited. He’s pl...In ligh...

A Harvest Moon part 1 | Liminal Passages

Notes from Between Worlds. September 28, 2012. A Harvest Moon part 1. Naturally, when I was fourteen, my Uncle Cheese introduced me to Spaceballs. That woman is bad for my cholestorol. Honestly, I’m kind of glad I have nowhere that I have to be at the moment–because tomorrow, Uji and I get the keys to our very own house. More about that in part two.
