Opposition to the Project. Residents of the Olympic Peninsula are very familiar with logging practices. Recognizing the need for lumber and fire protection practices, we understand and often accept the steps the US Forest Service is required to take to protect towns, people, and wildlife. However, in the case of Mount Walker, there is no evidence that such thinning is required at this time. View of Quilcene/Dabob Bay. Save Mount Walker.org has been organized by a group of concerned citizens living on and outside the Olympic Peninsula. There is no hidden agenda to our purpose, which is simply: to protect the mountain, its wildlife, and its surrounding areas from excessive thinning. The economies of Quilcene and Brinnon hinge on tourist traffic. We are concerned that any logging activity on Mt. Walker will adversely affect our fragile economy and whatever little wildlife there is left.
