The Presidio Brat: Goldsworthy's Latest
http://presidio-brat.blogspot.com/2013/07/goldsworthys-latest.html
Sunday, July 7, 2013. Driving through the Main Post yesterday, we came across something odd: a team of men attempting to slide a tree branch into a forgotten building on the Main Parade Ground. That's building 95, an old powder magazine on the corner of Anza and Sheridan. In my mind it's called the Lily Pad, thanks to its weird isolation and the abundance of lilies sprouting at its walls. Turns out the tree is part of an upcoming art installation by Andy Goldsworthy. I'm liking this contrast of old and n...

The Presidio Brat: July 2011
http://presidio-brat.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Friday, July 22, 2011. So is this where we go to get a car wash? If the National Marine Sanctuary (whose stated mission is to protect wildlife and habitats? Is allowed to soap their sidewalks, then I do think the whole "polluting the bay with your soapy cleanser" line that the residents get fed is pretty much bunkum. Thursday, July 14, 2011. Look what I found:. That was taken circa 1988, when they were filming "The Presidio". That's a younger Sean Connery dressed up like an army general. Dapper!

The Presidio Brat: Spotted At Baker Beach
http://presidio-brat.blogspot.com/2013/07/spotted-at-baker-beach.html
Sunday, July 7, 2013. Spotted At Baker Beach. The Western Fence lizard. He was hiding in the scrub, just to the side of the sand ladder. According to the NPS website. This lizard is "fairly uncommon in the Presidio," and yet "the most common reptile in California.". Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). San Francisco, California. View my complete profile. The Presidio Brat: Magical Seascape
http://presidio-brat.blogspot.com/2012/11/magical-seascape.html
Tuesday, November 13, 2012. I've never actually seen the tide this low at Baker Beach, low enough that you could walk clear to the south end and through a gap in the rocks. It was a magical seascape, a phantasmagoria of shells and colors and critters. Mussels seemed to cover every rock. Things were still living, and up close, the colors were extraordinary. There were dozens of green anemone-like blobs that closed themselves off if you touched them. Crimson slices of color inside white mini-clams.

The Presidio Brat: December 2013

Friday, December 13, 2013. A Historic Christmas Dinner - Presidio Style. Concepcion and Rezanov as depicted on the Presidio chapel (Interfaith Center). Few know the tragic story of Baron Nikolai Rezanov. A Russian statesman who came to the Spanish Presidio in 1806. Hoping to set up a trade treaty with New Spain, he was welcomed to the Presidio by Don Luis Arguello, not the commandante after whom our lovely street is named, but his son. Tell me that's a hat. A stuffed fowl drenched with red chile sauce.

The Presidio Brat: Starfleet Academy
http://presidio-brat.blogspot.com/2013/06/starfleet-academy.html
Thursday, June 27, 2013. For those who missed the public meeting last Monday night, the Trust is deciding what to do with the old Commissary on Crissy Field, and we heard three proposals. The first one was the Bridge Institute. I would like you to write "I should ride a bike.". They went on a little bit about all the modern tech, and how they're going to focus on education and e-learning, which just begs the question: if we're so wired in for this stuff, why build a building at all? Anyway, while I like ...

The Presidio Brat: May 2012
http://presidio-brat.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, May 9, 2012. No More Cookies for Marin. Well it's not exactly Presidio news, but today Presidio business resident George Lucas moved ahead with his plans to build a low-income housing complex on his Grady Ranch property in Marin. As you may know, he's been trying to build a studio in Marin for many years, but protesting NIMBYs (who call themselves the Lucas Valley Estates Homeowners Association) have sentenced his plans to bureaucratic hell. The scary part of the story? If they really gave a d...
