Operating details at Savong's School. Savong's School opened in September 2005. Today the school roll is approximately 266 primary and secondary students but varies according to the demands of the agricultural year (most local students are from farming families) and students may attend some days but not other days, according to these demands. Students are aged from 5 to 18 or more. The school has 12 teachers, 1 librarian and 1 Director - Svay Savong - who liaises with volunteers and teaches on occasion.

The school's responsibility to the teachers. Any school is as good as its teachers, and at Savong's School we have endeavoured to provide teachers with a supportive environment and with the assurance and resources they need to do their job well. Salaries that are competitive or a little ahead of State School salaries. Currently $US80 per month. These are paid by auto-payment on the 3rd of each month into the teachers' bank accounts. Running a school is never easy, but this last month Savong's School started providing primary school services to help meet the local shortage of primary school facilitites in Bakong. Nationally there are 54 primary students for each teacher - so you can imagine the need for additional resources. We're sure things will settle down soon however. PLEASE HELP SPONSOR US. History of the School. The Library Project 2008. Before the current school was built and opened in September 2005, Svay Savong. Began teaching in a small classroom attached to his father’s house near the Killing Fields Pagoda on the edge of Siem Reap. His dream was to provide free language education to provide future employment opportunities for students. An account of those days is on YouTube. Early funding for this school came from a Japanese businessman, and from a variety of visitors from many nations.
