Five Questions an Editor Will Ask of Your Novel |

Fostering, developing and promoting writers and writing. Five Questions an Editor Will Ask of Your Novel. By Kevin O’Brien. Why not join us for the Editing Boot Camp to learn more. I should start this blog post by saying that good editors will ask you. Than five questions about your novel, but I’ve chosen the following issues in particular as they can be the hardest to fix if left until the end of the writing editing process. This would need to be explained in some way if so. Readers will anticipate stru...

Love in Hindsight III | Free Little Words

https://freelittlewords.wordpress.com/2013/07/22/love-in-hindsight-iii

Three little words that mean so much and cost nothing. Love in Hindsight III. Of this series I looked back on my time as a pre-parent teacher and then as a parent in the present day. While teaching and parenting are hugely important aspects of my life, they don’t define who I. It is interesting to note (to me at least) when I started blogging what information I added to my gravatar. ‘Mum’, ‘wife’, ‘sister’ and other titles were provided. But who am I? Aiming high, which is always what I seem to do, I set...

Three little words that mean so much and cost nothing. Love in Hindsight II. In the first post. Of this series, I reflected on my teaching career. Teaching has been a big part of my life, spanning nearly two decades. What I didn’t know back then was how much I was learning about myself as a person and a future parent as I learnt to teach. I saw parents arrive holding their little one’s hand and helping them prepare for the day. They fostered their independence but assisted them if need be. I saw parents ...

Writer, reader, horse rider, unapologetic grammar nazi, consumer of good food and wine. Monthly Archives: April 2013. April 1, 2013. Book review – Fractured by Dawn Barker. I wouldn’t normally post book reviews, but this one affected me quite a lot, and plus, I know the author and want to help get the word out about her book. I met Dawn Barker. Tells the story of Anna and Tony in the early days after having their first baby. As the title suggests, things don’t go as smoothly as they expect. Is an unsettl...

Writer, reader, horse rider, unapologetic grammar nazi, consumer of good food and wine. August 2, 2013. It’s been a while since I posted, because…well…I’ve been writing. Writing rather a lot, actually. I’ve been banging out 1000 words a day, which I haven’t managed since before having a baby. There are a couple of reasons for this. My other bit of news is that Parenting Express. An online magazine, has published a blog post. February 15, 2013. I was only five years old at the time, but I so clearly remem...

Writer, reader, horse rider, unapologetic grammar nazi, consumer of good food and wine. Monthly Archives: December 2013. December 10, 2013. No, it wasn’t one of those things where you get yelled at by a muscle-bound exerciseaholic while subjecting your own body to torture. But it was probably just as tiring. Yesterday I completed the final day of a four day fiction writing bootcamp held by the SA Writers’ Centre. Next up was imagery with Lia Weston, which I also really enjoyed. It covered all the dif...
