Local and Family History Research. 2015 History of Saxilby and District Group. Saxilby and District History Group. We hold an exhibition in the Village Hall as part of the annual Heritage Open Days, and attract several hundred visitors. We assisted Lincolnshire Waterways Partnership in the refurbishment of the Foss Canal Moorings, providing them with photographs and text for the information displays. There is a permanent display in the local library, which we change at regular intervals.

Mr Smith was born at Ivy Cottage, Gainsborough Road, in October 1904, the 4th of six children. His father was a smallholder, with three cows, a horse, pigs, poultry and a milk round (churns not sterilised bottles! Later the steam tug boats pulled a string of 5 or 6 barges. Tabs mother helped to run fund-raising concerts at the Primitive Methodist Chapel....

Local and Family History Research. 2015 History of Saxilby and District Group. Saxilby and District History Group. Members of the Valley Family still live in the village. John Valley (pictured left) was born in 1847, the son of Jacomin Valle, an Italian immigrant born in Genoa and Sarah Bellamy from Morton in Lincolnshire. John was the eldest of twelve children. John married a local girl, Mary Ann Turner, in 1872. They had 10 children, all born at 28 Lincoln Road (pictured below).

We have been occupied by Celts, Romans, Angles, Danish Vikings and Normans! We are showing many photographs from John Wilsons Collection,which now numbers over 1,000 local pictures. See old maps (our oldest dates from 1648), documents and memorabilia. We will be giving guided village walks telling more of the districts past. Exhibitions and Special Events.
