The Society finances its charitable activities from annual membership contributions, corporate donations, investment income as well as from bequests and gifts. Annual donations of minimum $30, increased voluntarily based on means, qualify for single-membership (family membership is $50) and the right to vote at the annual membership meeting, usually in February. All contributions are tax deductible (tax exemption #94-6052328). To become a member, please submit a membership application along with your dues.

The original and primary mission of the Swiss Benevolent Society was and is to provide one-time or ongoing assistance - help with paying bills, shopping or transportation - as well as companionship to Swiss living in Northern California. Contrary to popular belief, there are Swiss in need. Usually, it is:. A sudden, monetary crisis brought on by a death or divorce (50%). Failing health and age, compounded by a lack of family living nearby who could help (40%). All information is kept confidential.

The Swiss Benevolent Society helps qualified applicants obtain a higher education in any field of endeavor at any accredited university or college in the United States. The scholarships are limited to students who are residents of Northern California. Students may apply every year while enrolled. There are five (5) different scholarship funds available:. 1 SBS General Fund Scholarship. 2 Willy Isler Scholarship. 3 Silvia and Jacques Iselin Scholarship Fund. Based on need and merit. Based on merit alone.
