Given that the early 20th Century saw a boom in the popularity of brass bands, it's hardly surprising that many bands are reaching significant milestones such as their 75th or 100th anniversaries. Epsom and Ewell Silver Band is one such band, with 2010 seeing their centenary celebrations.

Cancelled Event - Godstone Concert 24th July. Unfortunately, the organisers of the concert we were due to play at in Godstone on Friday 24th July have had to cancel the event. Sorry to those who were looking forward to hearing us there. Our next public events are the Vine Bandstand, Sevenoaks on Sunday 16th August at 3PM and the Eastbourne Bandstand on Sunday 23rd August at 3PM. Our next indoor concert will be our Autumn concert at St John's Church, Hurst Green on Saturday 31st October at 7:30PM.

Oxted Band was founded in 1901 although local musicians were meeting before that. The band's founder is given as one Arthur Paul Barry who is also described as the band's teacher. Is it Arthur Barry who sits proudly in the middle of this 1905 photograph, swagger stick on knees, side drum at his feet? Originally known as The Oxted and District Prize Band, taking part in contests goes right back in the history of our band. However, for many years from the seventies into the early 2000's, the band had been away from the contest arena. We returned in 2009, and playing Edward Gregson's 'Partita', we were just pipped to winning the section by one point, but happily took second, and again an Oxted player took Best Instrumentalist, this time won by our Principal Cornet, Kevin Adams.
