Steam and Diesel Castings. Telephone : 01442 214 702. The first Class 40 was unveiled in March 1958 powered by an English Electric 2000 hp engine. Both the wheel configuration and the design of the bogie were shared with the Class 44, 45 and 46. The overall length was 69 foot 6 inches with an all up weight of 136 tonnes. Steam and Diesel Castings. Telephone : 01442 214 702. The Planet Diesel was supplied to the Ashover Light Railway by F.C.Hibberd and Co. Ltd In 1948 and was fitted with a 6 cylinder Perkins engine. The 5” model is fitted with 2 DC motors, one to each axle, with 12 or 24 volts battery power. Controls are a simple forward reverse switch and speed potentiometer. Steam and Diesel Castings. Telephone : 01442 214 702. Built by English Electric between 1961 and 1962, 22 of these 105 tonnes, 100 mph locos were produced. Powered by two Napier Deltic T18-25 engines producing 1650 hp at 1500 rpm, the electric transmission was delivered through six EE 538 axle-hung traction motors. The one piece fibre glass moulded body of this 5” Gauge model, can be mounted on either fabricated side frame bogies or cast type, depending on preference. Prices ( inc VAT).

Powered by a Maybach MD 870 engine through a Mekydro hydraulic transmission, it delivered 1700 hp at 1500 rpm. With an overall weight of 77 tonnes, it had a maximum speed of 90 mph. There were driving postions at each end of the ‘blunt nosed’ body with the equipment installed in the centre section. This Class was first introduced in 1960 powered by a 2500 hp Sulzer engine with six Crompton-Parkinson 305 hp axle hung, nose suspended traction motors, giving a maximum speed of 90 mph. Designed at Derby, they were built there or at Crewe with the body design and layout following the general pattern of the old LMS Nos. 10000 and 10001 diesel-electrics.
