SCCHGS members have recorded 60,000 headstone inscriptions of Oak Hill Cemetery in San Jose and 18,000 of Mission City Memorial Park. In Santa Clara, as well as those of other county cemeteries. The inscription records are on microfilm and available for patron use or if you are not able to visit the library we do have a volunteer research. Membership is open to all individuals. Membership meetings are held at 6:00 pm the third Tuesday of each month, except August and December at 2635 Homestead Road, Santa Clara. ( map. Annual membership fees range from $20 to $30, and include the Newsletter subscription. For an additional $8 (in addition to the membership), please subscribe to the Santa Clara County Connections. Although California joined the United States in 1850, it missed the federal census. 1852 was the first census taken in the state. In 1935 as part of the WPA projects, the DAR transcribed the census. The original census was filmed in the 1970s but was already of poor quality and the original sheets were destroyed.
