That is not really a flattering comment if you’ve seen the movie, however I knew what she meant having met her family before! If you’ve ever been out to eat with Hannah you know she really tries to avoid the carbs, unless they are in a drink! I Don’t Want To Have Earl’s Baby Pie – made just for Hannah Bower. I baked it at 325-degree...

I was kind of happy to be done with pies, however, I forgot how much work goes into SOUP! I literally chopped and prepped stuff for 90-minutes before the cooking began…whew! For this from my Epicurious app on my iPad. Let’s begin…! Then in my food processor I chopped up 3-cups of yellow onions, then sautéed in bacon fat, added to stock pot with chicken. I then chopped up ...

John and I have been trying to follow the Paleo Diet as much as possible lately. I’ve been putting in the time at FitWit, in hopes that the “diet exercise” really does work! That’s why this soup project is an exciting thing for us as it’s something I can make paleo very easily! This week I went with a true paleo recipe…this is how it went down. Paleo Texas Style Beef and Pumpkin Chili.

I have only one pie left to make until I am calling this experiment “quits” and then will only do it for special occasions. But of course, I have lots of those coming up over the next few weeks. This week I wanted to use my new toy I got from Williams-Sonoma the Breville Pie Maker. It makes 4-mini pies in about 12-minutes! Too good to be true!

VARGOCITY: Tiny Libraries
http://vargocity.blogspot.com/2013/04/tiny-libraries.html
Monday, April 15, 2013. Regular readers who have been with me since long, long ago may remember a discussion while in Bogotà about their mobile and distributed libraries. I am happy to report that I have found something similar in Madison. Here, The Little Free Library. Is everywhere: at the park, the grocery store, in tons of front yards. Books rotate in and out, you take what you're interested in an leave your old books if you wanna pass them on to others. From the Wisconsin Magazine.

Friday, June 14, 2013. Plastic Trees - Redux. An environmental economics professor of mine. Posits that if you want to preserve forests, you should stop recycling paper. The logic goes that the production of paper is what maintains the management of those places you now call forests and without it, they'd become tomorrow's suburbs. (hmmm, that could be a good name for something down the road) Here are a couple more developed arguments about this topic ( Recycling is Garbage. It is clear that we are not r...

VARGOCITY: Housing
http://vargocity.blogspot.com/2013/05/housing.html
Monday, May 13, 2013. Even with my own headaches around housing in Madison, I still like to open the paper on Sunday and dream about the beautiful and luxurious city dwellings being offered in the high priced advertising space (as seen above). The New York Times recently labeled the people who actually get to occupy these spaces in real life " the Stratospherians. How frustrating and disappointing, Vargo. Im really sad that youre finding yourself in this awful situation.AGAIN! Ps - that was katy. I live ...

VARGOCITY: Fake Plastic Trees
http://vargocity.blogspot.com/2013/06/fake-plastic-trees.html
Thursday, June 06, 2013. With humanity’s recent foray into 400ppm territory. Of course finding that much money and building these trees to capture that much CO2 is just part of the problem. Where do you put all these fake trees? Some ideas focus on changing the chemical composition of the ocean (more than we already are) to stimulate CO2 uptake by certain organisms. Reading more about these ideas and innovations is more depressing than inspiring. The people working hardest on these projects will be t...
