For scholars who play nice. All posts by nicescholars. My survey on the cooperative nature of cooperative working groups. I used to think this was just the aberrant behaviour of a few individuals, but over time, I see it as the norm for a clique of scientists, and I’ve found a fairly substantial body of literature documenting and partly explaining the phenomenon in a wide range of fields. 1 September, 2012. For scholars who play nice. All posts for the month August, 2012. Oh, for goodness’ sake. Why are so many senior, renowned scientists so utterly, utterly awful when it comes to cooperative working? I’m sure this is a nonsequitur, but anyway – here’s a clever little scheme to try:. 4 Take a back seat in the discussions (sit in the chairperson’s seat). This detachment from the fray is, of course, a sign of b...5 When ...

A safe (operating) space for early career researchers. March 4, 2016. I’m looking to publish some of my Masters findings and am looking for some journal ideas. My paper is looking at the regulation of firewood harvesting in rural Bushbuckridge (South Africa) and how these systems have changed (weakened) since national democracy in 1994. It specifically looks at the socio-economic and political drivers of this change. Does anyone know of an open access journal that may fit this idea? Amsalu W. Yalew.
