Cathy is a powerful teller of tales. She is a regular performer at Aberdeen Storytelling Festival and Aberdeen University WORD festival. She's told stories in castles, hospitals, arts centres, retirement homes and at weddings, funerals, parties and on hillsides. She has also worked for the BBC and was recently Storytelling Fellow in Aberdeen, working closely with schools to place storytelling in the primary curriculum.

Traditional features are combined with the best of modern facilities and bamboo or maple hardwood flooring is used throughout. All rooms have period cast iron radiators and attractive lighting. Ballater lies at the heart of Royal Deeside and is surrounded by hills, rivers and forests. Ballater is a charming Victorian village, beautifully laid out, 44 miles from the city of Aberdeen. The village has interesting shops - many with Royal Appointment signs - showing that the Royal Family also shop here. There are excellent coffee shops, a variety of restaurants, several pubs and a visitor information centre.

Aberdeen has good rail and bus connections to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and London. There is a local bus service from Aberdeen to Ballater, and in summer the Heather Hopper Service runs from Ballater to Perth and Aviemore. Walkers and cyclists can arrive via one of the ancient routes, military roads and drove roads which weave through the mountains from west to east and north to south. Schoolhouse aims to operate as a business that respects the environment. This Victorian building has been carefully restored incorporating many attractive, reclaimed features. It is carefully insulated and most of the lighting is low energy. As much waste as possible being composted, or recycled. Fuel and energy consumption is monitored and waste of these resources is avoided. A copy of the Green policy is found in all bedrooms.
