Give One Toilet Project. We're very excited to partner with this new local NFP organization! Just days after Maxandre had returned to Haiti we received a wonderful email from the Director of the local organization, Schools Count Corp. Dick Flesher, to say that he was interested in teaming with us to actively fundraise and help Maxandre and the staff and students of Institution Mixte Nao Community School to rebuild their school. Please visit their site to learn more about their efforts in recent years:.

I am enduring my own struggles as we all do, and I wonder if I can be as strong as those who have survived so much, my own problems seem so minor when you look at what so many have had to overcome or succumb. Volunteering in NOLA: January 2010
http://volunteeringinnola.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 16, 2010. As we watch all the coverage of the horrific earthquake that rocked Haiti, I am always humbled by how powerless we really are when it comes to natural disasters of any kind. However, when we all come together we can make such wonderful changes in the world. As we were driving down the road today, we saw a family selling hot chocolate and cookies on the sidewalk in the middle of July in Chicagoland. As a teacher and parent I continue to look for ways to encourage children to lo...

Volunteering in NOLA: May 2011
http://volunteeringinnola.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 1, 2011. I am trying to decide how I feel about mandated volunteerism for high school. Many schools, including the one my children go to, require you to perform so many community service hours prior to graduation. Tis the season to make sure those are completed, my friends son has been directing traffic at 5K's, cleaning up and doing other items as fast as he can now in order to graduate. Still working on it. Volunteering in NOLA: Readying for NOLA 2010
http://volunteeringinnola.blogspot.com/2010/07/readying-for-nola-2010.html
Monday, July 12, 2010. Readying for NOLA 2010. Today we are in the midst of getting ready to head to NOLA for our 5th and final delivery of school supplies there. It is with great sadness that we have determined that this must be our last trip down. The amount of barriers that have come up over the last few months have been quite trying, especially for a nonprofit this small. In addition to having to pay for the gas for all of these! Disheartening to say the least! Still working on it. As told to me by a...

Volunteering in NOLA: June 2009
http://volunteeringinnola.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 7, 2009. Spending days now picking up, sorting, counting, and packaging school supplies that have been donated from local schools. It keeps them out of the landfill and is a great way to provide for the needs of more students in NOLA. You would not believe what kids throw away! We were also able to donate a bunch of novels to a local library for their book sale to help them raise funds:). Still working on it. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Just What Normally Happens. Volunteering in NOLA: July 2010
http://volunteeringinnola.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, July 31, 2010. That's it, isn't it. I hope I am setting the right example for my children, but also for my students in the classroom, and the neighbors children and so on. The amazing thing about all of this, is that given the opportunity, people from all walks of life, come forward and bond together to make a greater difference. Still working on it.
