FAQ - Sail Ocracoke
http://www.schoonerwindfall.com/faq.html
Q: Do you really sail or just motor? A: We never go out without hoisting sails. Normally we use the engine for a few minutes to get underway and get the sails up, and again for a few minutes at the end of the trip for docking after the sails are lowered . On the rare days when there is insufficient wind for sailing, we must assist with the engine but that's the exception rather than the rule. Q: I get seasick just looking at water. Is that going to be a problem? Q: Can we bring a camera? A: It's a fore-a...

Monday, November 23, 2009. Basic cPanel Server Hardening - Part 2. I explained why securing a server is important and the general steps I would take you through to secure your server. In this installment I will go into detail about installing and configuring a software firewall. A dedicated firewall device can give you added security, but they are often not an option for the small web hosting providers this series is targeted at. I use Advanced Policy Firewall (APF). Musings, stories and photographs about my life on a small island off the coast of North Carolina. Monday, July 12, 2010. I found a broken sand dollar in my lap, which had been on the dashboard. My sister did a wonderful job of calming me down and calling 911. My back and neck hurt immediately, so I got an ambulance ride to the hospital on a backboard (two words: seriously uncomfortable), but the CAT scan showed no major injuries ("just" whiplash, I suppose.which is enough.ouch). Musings, stories and photographs about my life on a small island off the coast of North Carolina. Thursday, September 30, 2010. Things we take for granted. The island is faring well so far during this storm. There's the usual flooding in the standard areas where it's expected, but no major issues that I've heard about. I haven't seen anyone kayaking down my street, so it's not as bad as that nor'easter last November. (Or at least not yet, anyway.). Links to this post. Links to this post. 3-6" of heavy ra...

Windfall
Saturday, December 6, 2014. Folks who remember my old schooner Windfall. Remember her black hull, white trim and tanbark (dark red) sails. When I first acquired the boat in 1985 she had a white hull and white sails. My ideal dream vessel in those days was the Baltic schooner. A three-masted beauty which just happened to have a black hull, white trim and tanbark sails. Immediately upon purchasing my new schooner I painted her black and ordered red sails. My sail maker tried to talk me out of the red sails.
