Some form of voltage regulator is needed anyway. Enough drive for the FETs. The IRFP450 requires more than 4V Vgs to fully turn on. This is not possible if the opamp is powered from a 5V, or worse a 3.3V, power-supply-under-test. Maximum allowed Vgs (30V) is never reached.

The VSWR bridge for HF (left picture) uses Stockton Bridge. Use your favorite search engine to get more information on the Stockton Bridge eg. at the site of G4FON. The F37-43 toroids have 10 turns, the case is from an old TV tuner. The VSWR bridge for VHF/UHF is from a 27 mc VSWR meter. The PL239 connectors are replaced by BNC connectors, the diodes are replaced by BAT43 Schottky diodes. It's not perfect, but usable for 2m and 70cm. And a small PC program. To get a reading om my old 386 laptop.

Last updated: June 22, 2015. The hardware is based on a design by PA2OHH. Found in the Benelux QRP magazine. The counter fits into an old whiteboard marker. The tip is a 2 mm banana plug. This makes it easy to attach 'accessoires' like a small pickup coil. The voltage levels on the serial port of most laptops are to low to generate a usable 5V supply. Use an external power supply in such cases, eg a 9V battery. Containing the Xcircuit files (encapsulated postscript), the C-sources and a DOS executable.
