The Discovery Preschool: Highlights October 2014

http://www.sciencediscoverypreschool.blogspot.com/2014/11/highlights-october-2014.html

A Reggio-inspired school that emphasizes science and the arts. Tuesday, November 18, 2014. We kicked off the month of October with a walking field trip to a large garden that included a small apple orchard. We picked and gathered fresh apples, and got to taste different varieties of apples. All kinds of things were growing in the garden: grapes, tomatoes, kale, broccoli, peppers, onions, carrots, walnuts, etc. We made applesauce back at school with some of the apples she gave to us. It was delicious!

A Reggio-inspired school that emphasizes science and the arts. Friday, September 13, 2013. We are off to a great start! The first two weeks of school have been delightful. The kids all seem really happy to be at school and are eager to learn. I will share some highlights from the first two weeks of school. Picnic props were in the dramatic play area this week, including beach towels, a picnic basket, a cooler, and picnic food. The children enjoyed many a pretend picnic together. After two weeks of workin...

The Discovery Preschool: April 2014

http://www.sciencediscoverypreschool.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

A Reggio-inspired school that emphasizes science and the arts. Saturday, April 5, 2014. My husband who speaks Spanish taught the kids how to sing Happy Birthday in Spanish. And told us how the pinata is part of many celebrations in Mexico, including birthday celebrations. Of course, the best part of the pinata was the candy! Since we had been celebrating cultures from around the world for some time, I decided to ask the children if they knew of any problems in our world. Here were the children's resp...

Developmentally appropriate activities that teach young children science, literacy, art and math. Monday, June 15, 2015. Here I added seashells and floating fish from Lakeshore Learning. I picked up some fish nets from the pet aisle at Walmart. Both the ice trays and seashells have numbers written on them. Students can find a shell and transfer it to the ice tray to make a number match. You can also include a glass fish bowl for collecting the fish with the nets. Here are some favorite items for sand pla...

Sustain science | Positive communication for a sustainable future

Positive communication for a sustainable future. The Solar System Song. October 14, 2014. I love this song for children about the solar system because it doesn’t talk down to its audience, yet is simple and enchanting enough to capture the imagination. It is informative, appropriately accurate, and opens children’s eyes to the wonder of the universe while inspiring them to learn about science. Song written and performed by A.J. Jenkins. Video courtesy of KidsTV123. Don’t Waste Your Waste. March 20, 2014.
