The blog of a new postdoc: The myth of the postdoc
http://newpostdoc.blogspot.com/2009/12/myth-of-postdoc.html
The blog of a new postdoc. Starting a postdoc, finishing a dissertation, going on the job market, and trying to find new friends to help me keep my head above water. Monday, December 14, 2009. In the midst of job season, we all have romantic ideas about what fellowships are like: you picture yourself in a different environment, doing different work, and you come home to a fulfilling social and personal life that is just like the one you have now. Obviously a complete fantasy.

The blog of a new postdoc. Starting a postdoc, finishing a dissertation, going on the job market, and trying to find new friends to help me keep my head above water. Thursday, May 21, 2009. I just want to do research. I have started writing grant proposals. Everything is soft money around here, and grants are the only way to advance. Suddenly speaking this language of grants (why didn't I learn earlier? Everything makes more sense in conversations between colleagues. Links to this post. I confessed that ...

Hood Scientist: December 2014

For the Modern Chemist. Why Niels Bohr Would Probably Fight James Watson Today. James Watson is making some serious headlines lately. As if he had nothing better to do than keep up with the Kardashians. Despite the massive publicity regarding the prestigious gold relic, the science community is unimpressed. In my honest opinion, Watson selling his Nobel Prize metal just confirmed to me that he didn't deserve it to begin with. 8212; BranVanChemist (@BranVanChemist) December 10, 2014. Napping like a cat. Anywhere. Anytime. Back to full time. Friday, May 22, 2015. It’s the end of the day on Friday, and I’m on my way home following my first week at a new job. It was not just my first week here, but also my first week back at full time work. I feel so many different emotions over this transition. So when I’m at work things are great. When I’m at home and my daughter is up I like to focus on spending time with her, and that’s great too. This entry was posted in about me. You are commentin...

Napping like a cat. Anywhere. Anytime. Thursday, September 25, 2014. My daughter is about 8 and a half months old. I rarely have time to really sit and write, but I’m going to try to save a bit of memory here. I’m writing now on my way to work. I am still going to work twice a week, on Thursdays and Fridays. It’s getting very hard to work at home. I try to do 3 hours on Monday and 3 hours on Wednesday. Her propensity to explore her physical skills is much more like me than her father. Scenes from a Saturday | A Cat Nap
https://flickamawa.wordpress.com/2015/04/10/scenes-from-a-saturday
Napping like a cat. Anywhere. Anytime. Scenes from a Saturday. Friday, April 10, 2015. It’s Saturday morning, and I am on my work laptop. The last two days I have been at the office, working hard as one of my staff is leaving, and while I am eager to focus on family again, there are a few nagging items I can’t get out of my mind. I send off a few emails, interrupted here and there by my toddler who is hungry for breakfast. 8220;Do you have to go? I roll the stroller with my daughter to a spot in the back...
