Counsel Me: October 2013
http://franticpharmacist.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 15, 2013. Indeed, there's a lot to be debated about wealthy pro athletes spawning kids all over the place and then apparently having little to do with their well-being. Of course, lots of people who aren't pro athletes are guilty of the same thing. Monday, October 7, 2013. I'll keep at it if you meet me halfway. Someone else told me I was "full of shit" when I tried to explain the rules regarding quantities of diabetic test strips when covered by Medicare. 4 Be patient. Be courteous ...

Counsel Me: Monday Morning.. Quarterback?
http://franticpharmacist.blogspot.com/2014/02/monday-morning-quarterback.html
Monday, February 3, 2014. Monday Morning. Quarterback? I'm really glad to see that Nasacort is going OTC (the first topical steroid nasal spray to go over-the-counter in the U.S.). This type of product is already OTC in other parts of the world. I think these Rx-to-OTC switches are a good attempt to bring down costs and put more of the responsibility on the consumer (remember how much time you used to spend dispensing Allegra and Claritin? I really enjoyed watching Philip Seymour Hoffman. So why woul...

Friday, December 13, 2013. All I Want for Christmasssssss. There are always attempts to have Christmas parties at work - - to go out for dinner or have a gathering somewhere, but everyone's schedule is so busy and quite honestly I think people feel they already spend enough time with their co-workers, and well - - - let's just skip the extracurriculars. No offense. I'm still really, really lucky, and I plan to be there. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). SciFi Pharmacist Guy from pharmacy to infinity and beyond.

http://franticpharmacist.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 10, 2013. Advancements in Pharmaceuticals for the Good of Humankind. Hey, there's a "new" drug out for morning sickness! It's called "Diclegis" and it costs about $570. Per 100 tablets. Each tablet is a combination of 10mg pyridoxine (Vitamin B6) and 10 mg doxylamine. The cost of these two medications, if purchased over-the-counter separately - a few DOLLARS. (Doxylamine is "Unisom", in a 25mg tablet - - hint: break it in half! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Your Pharmacist May Hate You.

Counsel Me: July 2013
http://franticpharmacist.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 17, 2013. The Public, the Providers, and the Plodding. As the routine daily tasks of pharmacy continue on these days, I find myself thinking about the general state of our health care system and how uncertain/hopeful/apprehensive I can feel all in one day. I'm thinking of three components. A physician is retiring from a medical office nearby, and I asked his nurse one day if they were going to replace him. She said they hoped to, but "it is very difficult to find a male M.D.

Counsel Me: Reading Rainbow
http://franticpharmacist.blogspot.com/2014/01/reading-rainbow.html
Sunday, January 26, 2014. OK, well we're almost through with January, the dreaded "new insurance" month. I don't think we're out of the woods yet. All those people who got 90-day supplies of meds at the end of 2013 haven't returned for refills yet. I'm guessing the hammer will really drop around mid-March. This is when folks will discover all the things they "didn't know" about the new insurance. Y'know, after a tough day with pharmacy customers I think about the meaning of "education.". I once informed ...

Counsel Me: Down Memory Lane
http://franticpharmacist.blogspot.com/2014/03/down-memory-lane.html
Monday, March 10, 2014. It's interesting how certain moments stick with you forever. My own list includes:. One of the first times (as a newbie) I was sent up to the bedside to talk to a patient about his potential discharge meds. He had a tube in his throat and told me he really wasn't interested because his wife took care of all that stuff. I didn't know what to say to him and I still wouldn't today. I felt pretty darn inadequate. After years of working in the basement, being transferred to a surgical ...

Counsel Me: A New Phase
http://franticpharmacist.blogspot.com/2014/06/a-new-phase.html
Friday, June 6, 2014. Having spent the last few weeks dealing with the health issues of an aging parent, I have a new found. Sympathy for people who try to negotiate a health care system they don't understand, a bureaucracy that seems overwhelming and medications whose names appear to be written in Swahili. Having worked in health care for a long time gave me a distinct advantage that I wish everyone had, but doing many of these things 'long distance' will present continuing challenges. I think it will m...
