Thursday, March 26, 2009. Entertainer of the Month: Alan Arkin. With Audrey Hepburn. Later he played Captain Yossarian in the movie adaptation of Catch-22. In more recent years he has shown up mostly in comedies like Grosse Pointe Blank. Which won him an Oscar) and most recently Get Smart. One of my favorite roles of his is as the police chief in So I Married an Axe Murderer. His scenes opposite Anthony LaPaglia (below, 3:29) are my favorites in that movie. Links to this post. The second Sconefest took place in the fall of 1995. It started out as something to do after the local high school football game got over. It is estimated that 100 people were in attendance, many of whom where unknown to the host. Besides scones and homemade ice cream, the glow-in-the-dark football was introduced and became an instant crowd favorite. The stage was set. The future of Sconefest had no limits.

Doug Worthington favored us with two heart-warming renditions (English and Spanish) of "Choppin' Broccoli." Dave Vawdrey pulled out the guitar and pondered what life would be like if he had a million dollars. The high point came when Fatty Matt was shaved to the tunes of "Crazy Love" by Aaron Neville.

2 cups warmed buttermilk. 1/2 cup luke-warm water. 3 teaspoons baking powder. Flour to make a soft dough. Dissolve the yeast in the warm water, add sugar and let rise. Mix the yeast in with the buttermilk. Beat the eggs and add to the liquid. Add the oil and small amount of flour, also the salt, soda and baking powder. Continue adding flour to make a soft dough. Mix until smooth. Turn onto floured counter top and kneed until it is smooth but soft. Cut into small pieces and fry in oil.
