Summer in Cambodia

Saturday, July 16, 2011. Adventures from the last two weekends in Cambodia. And then of course, there’s going to the market to pick out the fabric for your own wedding gown and trying to convince the Khmer dressmaker that you DON’T want the pointy Madonna breasts sewn into your gown. I’ve donned my krama (traditional scarf), and am honestly not really ready to leave. This weekend I’ve just returned from visiting the province and hometown of my friend Sam. We left early Saturday morning and bega...We talk...

Summer in Cambodia: Photos from Kep

http://sconnell1.blogspot.com/2011/07/photos-from-kep.html

Saturday, July 16, 2011. Me and Ming's son Kim in Kampot! Corny but they insisted. Kim with the world famous Kampot pepper. Check out those waves! Crab fishing is a major industry in Kep, the work starts early in the morning with women up to their necks in water. I think this was the Horseshoe crab- YUM. I know the waves aren't big here, but they got bigger. Rabbit Island, you can stay in a primitive bungalow here for $5, drink coconut juice and get a massage on the beach. Me and my krama.

Summer in Cambodia: Pictures from the last few weeks

http://sconnell1.blogspot.com/2011/07/pictures-from-last-few-weeks.html

Tuesday, July 5, 2011. Pictures from the last few weeks. My dear friend Ana, who has taken me under her wing and brought me to places I never would have known about. Ana and I picnicked in the little huts right on the water on the left side. Food comes around in boats like these. Or you can take a lazy ride up river. Notice how red I am? At this point recovering from dengue, which when the virus dies in your body, you break out into a full body rash that itches and kind of burns. July 9, 2011 at 8:21 PM.

Summer in Cambodia: Week Number 5 in Kampuchea

http://sconnell1.blogspot.com/2011/07/week-number-5-in-kampuchea.html

Tuesday, July 5, 2011. Week Number 5 in Kampuchea. I’m at my 5. Week in Cambodia. I have 3 more weeks at the office, and 1 week after that for vacationing. I’ve got a lot to report and regret not writing on a more regular basis. It has been hard to sit at a computer all day, and then to want to write a blog in my free time. I’ve started taking yoga classes, gotten more massages, had manicures and pedicures. I am really living it up! Of July the US Embassy had a big 4. I love hearing from you. Im really e...

Summer in Cambodia: June 2011

http://sconnell1.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Wednesday, June 22, 2011. Week 2 in Cambodia, Land of Wonder. Dengue, or “break bone” fever caught up with me last week somewhere outside of Pailin. The virus is transmitted by day-time mosquitoes, and has about a 4-7 day incubation period. I returned home from travel to the rural provinces Friday, by Sunday afternoon I had a temp of 104F, chills, body aches, and a headache so bad I couldn’t lift my head from the pillow. When we arrived at the right place we needed to stop to consult with the village chi...

Summer in Cambodia: Visit to Prey Veng--Sam's homeland

http://sconnell1.blogspot.com/2011/07/visit-to-prey-veng-sams-homeland.html

Saturday, July 16, 2011. Visit to Prey Veng- Sam's homeland. An example of a well maintained health center. Noticed the gloves and face mask! The roads are so dusty! Lotus grow everywhere, and you can eat the fruit, a very strange looking fruit. It's hammock time at Sam's house. It looks like a lake right, it's a river. The wat in Sam's town. Where the monks live (there was one here, he just ducked his head inside right as I took the photo). This baby Neda, was so fun! Ferrying across the mekong.
