Omdat ik graag in de buurt van mijn kinderen wilde blijven, heb ik in 2000 de overstap gemaakt naar de brandweer waar ik nu hoofdbrandwacht ben. Maar ik ben ook bij de Natres gegaan, waar ik nu als plaatsvervangend groepscommandant een ploeg van tien personen leid. Eén met de natuur. Vermoeid maar met een glimlach.

Een meerdaagse wandeltocht langs de West Highlandway in Schotland. Woensdag 7 april 2010. Voor mij erg bijzonder een dergelijke tocht te mogen ondersteunen. Op de zaterdag voor vertrek werd een extra stuk gelopen van Achnacarry Castle (het oude commando opleidingscentrum in WO2) naar Spean Bridge met een korte stop bij het Commando Memorial om eer te betuigen aan de gevallen militairen. Dit oude commando opleidingscentrum ligt vlak bij het eindpunt van de route bij Fort William. Dinsdag 6 april 2010.
