Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a recessive X linked form of muscular dystrophy, affecting around 1 in 3600 boys, which results in muscle degeneration and eventual death. The disorder is caused by a mutation in the dystrophin gene, the largest gene located on the human X chromosome. While both sexes can carry the mutation, females rarely exhibit signs of the disease.

After a few months Roger was transferred to Minot, North Dakota and later that year Roger had an opportunity to move back south, and transferred to Huntsville, Alabama to work with the space program. Huntsville is where Roger and Margaret made their home until 2004 when they retired to Brevard, North Carolina. Visit the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina.

This is letter Scott wrote to his grandparents in Kansas just after his trip to Munich, Germany. This is a letter that Scott wrote to his grandparents in Kansas in June 1984. Letter Scott wrote to his grandfather that his grandfather would have received just a few days before he had a heart attack and died. Letter to friends in Thorsby, Alabama.

Even though confined to a wheelchair and unable to move any parts of his body except the fingers on his left hand, he reached out to others and inspired them. He took an obstacle and turned it into an opportunity. Scott always felt of himself as being a normal young man, but was aware of the difficulties with his physical body. However, he had a great mind and utilized it to enjoy life.
