The 1946-1951 outboards have three digit model numbers. The first two digits are the year and the last digit designates the size for the motor. 0 - Standard Single. 1 - Deluxe Single. 3 - 75 Hp Twin. 6 - 30 Hp Twin. 7 - 5 Hp Twin. 8 - 10 Hp Twin. 9 - 16 Hp Twin. At a glance, then, you can tell that a 497 is a 5 Hp twin made in 1949, a 470 is a standard single made in 1947. The only exceptions are the 1946 models, which are designated 461 and 467 for the standard and deluxe single. Now for the exceptions:.
