Tuesday, November 22, 2005. Open CD 3.1 released. Open CD 3.1. Has been released. For those who have never downloaded it the open cd is a collection of open source software (productivity, utilities, multimedia, games, etc.) gathered together on one cd. Its cool to have around just in case. BTW I have not gotten around to updating my website yet but here is a couple of cool links I intend to put up there. The names say it all. Thursday, August 24, 2006. I retook the Computer test. I got an email from a friend that the SQL on the nerd test was broken. I took the test and had no problems. Incidentally I scored perfect! Apparently its okay to sleep at 3am and not know PHP. I guess my friend must have been using a crappy browser like IE :). Posted by Scott Conway at 8:19 PM. Posted by Scott Conway at 10:57 AM. Wednesday, August 31, 2005. Create your own Graph Paper. Roll your own Graph Paper! Here is a site that will create the type, size, color graph paper you specify. Pretty cool for anyone playing RPGs or working on a science project and don't have time to run to WalMart (I made the last one up - I was really thinking about the RPGs). Friday, July 29, 2005. A good digital photgraphy primer. Here is an excellent tutorial for anyone with digital cameras. Http:/ www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials.htm. Another good article about digital cameras is the megapixel myth. It really clears up the myth that more pixels does not make a better picture. Instead you should look at the size of the sensor and the type of lens used. Posted by Scott Conway at 8:19 PM. Thursday, July 28, 2005. Hooked up the vonage phone last night. I read this article.

Wednesday, May 03, 2006. Incandescent vs. CFL vs. LED Light Bulb Challenge. This is a cool article I found on digg.com that describes the differences between the standard incandescent bulb, the compact fluorescent bulbs and the new LED bulbs. It evens has a link to a spreadsheet that shows the price savings over 30 years. Right now the CFLs are the sweetspot on the price/gain chart plus they are brighter than the LEDs. Though I would not discount the LEDs for specialized uses. View my complete profile.

Wednesday, April 26, 2006. Updated my Lottery simulator. Then I ran into this article. On digg.com about better Random number generators. So I wrote up the MT algorithm from the article (copy and paste with a nextInt function added) and then I rewrote my simulation algorithm to better match reality (this is really what helped). I then did 20 million and then 350 million iterations (which in the real world would have taken 3,379,068 years! So which is better? 200,000,000.00. 50,000,000.00. 8,030,000.00.

Pretty nifty if you want to store a bunch of shopping list and/or a daily/weekly calendar. Posted by Scott Conway at 7:28 PM. View my complete profile. You Are 30% Weird.
