Friday, September 05, 2014. Philmont Scout Ranch - Chronologically. One of the things I don't like about Blogger is that everything is sorted latest-first. This works for the general "read something new each day" format of a blog, but once that everyday stuff becomes history, especially when a topic spans multiple days, it is awkward to read it in reverse order. So, here, I present to you, my Philmont Scout Ranch journal, in chronological order:. Day Minus-One - Travel to Colorado. Day Zero - Base Camp.

scott's ravings: Philmont Scout Ranch - Day Seven - Mount Baldy

http://www.scottsravings.com/2014/09/philmont-scout-ranch-day-seven-mount.html

Monday, September 01, 2014. Philmont Scout Ranch - Day Seven - Mount Baldy. This was the big day. Day seven of our hike was the day that we summited Mt. Baldy. Baldy was so named because it lies at 12,500 ft, just above the tree line, as an imposing bunch of rocky shale that stares at you from every part of the vastness that is Philmont. Today, we'd climb it. I was wary of heading up this big monster both because of the elevation changes, plus the fact that my feet still hurt, a lot. We set off early, on...

scott's ravings: Philmont Scout Ranch - Day Two - House Canyon to Cook Canyon

http://www.scottsravings.com/2014/08/philmont-scout-ranch-day-two-house.html

Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Philmont Scout Ranch - Day Two - House Canyon to Cook Canyon. Before dawn broke, my watch alarm went off with a tiny beep-beep, beep-beep, beep-beep. During the trip, I was designated as the human alarm clock for the crew and was responsible for the much-unloved task of announcing to the crew, "It's five am! Time to wake up. Together, we decided to rise early each day because hiking in the morning was best, before the heat of the day made hiking oppressive. The water was not p...

scott's ravings: Philmont Scout Ranch - Day Six - Greenwood Canyon to Copper Canyon Camp

http://www.scottsravings.com/2014/08/philmont-scout-ranch-day-six-greenwood.html

Sunday, August 31, 2014. Philmont Scout Ranch - Day Six - Greenwood Canyon to Copper Canyon Camp. We were on a ten-or-so mile journey today, heading our way toward Copper Canyon camp, where we would have two blessed days in one camp, as we go up and down Mt. Baldy. This meant we had the luxury of not having to break up camp tomorrow morning, and being able to get off on our hike 90 minutes earlier than it typically took us to break camp and have breakfast. Yes, Mitchell had to poop. And so poop he di...

scott's ravings: Philmont Scout Ranch - Day One - Six Mile Gate to House Canyon Camp

http://www.scottsravings.com/2014/08/philmont-scout-ranch-day-one-six-mile.html

Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Philmont Scout Ranch - Day One - Six Mile Gate to House Canyon Camp. And as for elevation, the trek had us starting at 7,000 ft, and then after a few days, rising to 10,000, peaking at 12,500, back down to 10,000, and then gradually back down to 7,000- rather ideal from an acclimatization perspective. Philmont has but three rules for each trek: Rule number 1. Don't die. Rule number 2. Look good. And Rule number 3. If you do die, look good while dying. So, if you are falling ...

scott's ravings: Philmont Scout Ranch - Day Three - Cook Canyon to Ring Place

http://www.scottsravings.com/2014/08/philmont-scout-ranch-day-three-cook.html

Thursday, August 28, 2014. Philmont Scout Ranch - Day Three - Cook Canyon to Ring Place. Day three dawned, and we said good-bye to Sam, our ranger. Before leaving, Sam imparted us with some words of wisdom from his experiences at Philmont, and encouraged us, "Don't let this be the pinnacle of our scouting adventures; let it only be the beginning." ( Yeah, right,. I was thinking to myself. I'm getting too old for this crap! The hardships of the trail were beginning to set in. We didn't have an awful lot o...

The daily happenings of the Dautrich Family! Thursday, May 31, 2012. Last Day(s) of School. Since I have been a slacker on the posting I thought I'd kill 2 birds with one stone - Drew's last day of school was last Thursday, May 24, and Corry's was today, Thursday, May 31. I'm happy to not have to pack lunches and fight about homework for the summer, but am a little sad about the end of another school year. He will have a great head start for Kindergarten. Monday, May 7, 2012. My beautiful baby girl.

what's going on!: treading the mill

http://gazgibbs.blogspot.com/2014/07/treading-mill.html

Posted on 16.7.14 by gaz 0 comments. So here I am - typing something I never thought I would. I joined a gym! I'll start at the beginning. I do a job that involves me sitting behind a desk 90% of the time, and other than the odd bike ride and run about in the garden with the football with the boys - I do pretty much nothing fitness wise. How is that an example to set for my kids to be keeping fit? No - I'm in! And you know what? Time to work off some of that middle age spread :-) About time too!

And so it goes. Posted on 3.6.15 by gaz 0 comments. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to remember the exact order everything has been happening but I'll try. I may be rearranging this post as I go along as it seems that there's been so much going on I haven't really wanted to post about it as it could so easily have become a blog solely about the issues Ruben is having. During the Easter holidays at Llandudno Ru broke his foot! I used to be 6'4" and am now a paltry 6'2"! They all went to Ireland witho...

The Bible. 1 Chapter per day.

The Bible. 1 Chapter per day. Saturday, February 25, 2012. Feb 6, 2012 - Genesis 37. This is the account of Jacob. Too much going on here for just a simple genealogy, though, so we continue to watch this family unfold in detail. We need some insights here to understand how later events unfold as they do. Joseph, a young man of seventeen, was tending the flocks with his brothers…and he brought their father a bad report about them. Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons….
