Movie Junkie: January 2009

Directed by Steven Conrad. Written by Steven Conrad. Starring: Sean William Scott, John C. Reilly, Jenna Fischer, Lili Taylor. IMDB rating: 6.0. Despite this is supposed to be a comedy, I felt like I was watching a drama instead of comedy. More importantly, I think a lack of support from the music, the movie felt empty. What were intended to be funny turned out sour in the end. Or perhaps a too biased plot? Or lacked of top dialogues? Or maybe all of them were the culprits? Posted by E.F. 8217; And I tel...

The Damned United tells the story of Brian Clough’s days while managing the Leeds United in 1974. His tenure lasted for 44 days before he was sacked by the Leeds’ board of directors on September 12th 1974. The cast was remarkable. Playing as Brian Clough was Michael Sheen, while Timothy Spall played as Peter Taylor, a longtime assistant to Brian Clough. Then there was Colm Meaney portraying Don Revie and also Jim Broadbent as Sam Longson, the chairman of the Derby County. There were flashbacks towards Cl...

Unfortunately, no one would be able to answer that. This movie also acts as a reminder on how things were when women were treated as second-class citizens. Even now, in some countries, this still happens. Posted by E.F. Directed by Andrew Stanton.

Movie Junkie: December 2009

The latest from James Cameron took around 15 years in the making from script to finish and the film is probably opening a new chapter in filmmaking with its ability to blend live-action and computer-generated objects. We may be awed by the beauty of the nature in Pandora, but let’s not forget that we also have such beautiful landscape and wildlife here in the real world, gradually deteriorating due to human’s exploitation of natural resources. If we want to have such Pandoran beauty, we p...Overall, Avat...

Movie Junkie: Sherlock Holmes
http://moo-v-junkie.blogspot.com/2010/01/sherlock-holmes.html
The legendary detective is back and under Guy Ritchie’s interpretation, Sherlock Holmes is more like of a fast-paced action movie rather than a detective drama. Hardcore fans may not be appreciative of this movie but those less devout to Holmes may find this reboot as entertaining. Final Score: 7.0. Directed by Guy Ritchie. Screenplay by Michael Robert Johnson, Anthony Peckham, Simon Kinberg. Story by Lionel Wigram, based on the characters by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. IMDB Rating: 7.7. Posted by E.F. The l...

Movie Junkie: Kabluey
http://moo-v-junkie.blogspot.com/2010/01/kabluey.html
While some see this movie as a dark comedy addressing war in Iraq and the dot com bubble burst, I prefer to see it as a reminder that a person should be valued only based on his/her professional capacity, wealth or socialibity, but rather based on his/her kindness to others. Overall, it is more like a drama rather than a comedy, but it’s up to the audience where they want to put it. Great plot and fine performance made this film one of my favorites. Final rating: 10.0. Directed by Scott Prendergast.
