Scribbles in the chocolate box. Ten thousand hours of bittersweet musings. November 5, 2013. In Weekly Writing Challenge. Weekly Writing Challenge: Moved by Music. Danny Elfman’s theme for the popular children’s story is one beautifully haunting soundtrack. As usual, Elfman delivers leaving us all wanting of that nostalgic melody with dark undertones. I could have chosen songs by Ed Sheeran, Sara Bareilles, or the Corrs. These are people who write and sing at the same time and I absolutely adore them.

Why I Keep Three Blogs | scribbles in the chocolate box

Scribbles in the chocolate box. Ten thousand hours of bittersweet musings. Why I Keep Three Blogs. November 6, 2013. For today, I will disregard the writing prompt and instead focus on a topic that’s been long-overdue: my three blogs. I started blogging in 2005 when I was a Mass Communication student in college. It was a logical thing to do, given my passion for writing and curiosity for the novel. The verdict: I loved it! Then I quit my job and vowed to spend a few months as a gap year. I began particip...

bits of chocolate: How to Walk the Streets of Vietnam

http://bitsofchocolate.blogspot.com/2013/10/how-to-walk-streets-of-vietnam.html

Bittersweet reflections on stark realities. Friday, October 04, 2013. How to Walk the Streets of Vietnam. I survived my first backpacking trip. A big thank you to the numerous tips and tricks we picked up from fellow bloggers who have traveled the same path before we did. And yet, no matter how prepared we were, a few surprises dropped in on us while we tried to navigate our way around the busy streets of Vietnam. No, I will not teach you the proper way of walking. You can look up these terms online.

bits of chocolate: Memories of Gangwon

http://bitsofchocolate.blogspot.com/2006/07/memories-of-gangwon.html

Bittersweet reflections on stark realities. Thursday, July 27, 2006. I left my footprints in the sand;. But they got washed away by the sea. I left my footprints in my EATOF friends’ hearts;. They stay there forever. Indulge my nostalgia. Indulge the one thing that, despite all the tears and goodbyes, keeps me looking forward to the future with a fervent hope that someday, somewhere, and sometime, our paths would cross again. bits of chocolate: Hello, 2012

http://bitsofchocolate.blogspot.com/2011/12/hello-2012.html

Bittersweet reflections on stark realities. Saturday, December 31, 2011. Are you truly living or merely existing? Almost a year ago, I gave myself a challenge to find my answer to that question. And a challenge to write more than once for the year. What does it take to live? What does it take to exist? To exist is to eat, to breathe, to clothe oneself, and to do everything that enables one to physically survive. To live, however, is to go beyond this mere existence. La vita e bella. bits of chocolate: Vietnam: Into the Motorcycle Capital of the World

http://bitsofchocolate.blogspot.com/2013/09/vietnam-into-motorcycle-capital-of-world.html

Bittersweet reflections on stark realities. Thursday, September 19, 2013. Vietnam: Into the Motorcycle Capital of the World. Saigon literally roars to life everyday with the motorcycles. One of the local tour guides told us that with the exception of children and old people, everyone owns a motorcycle in Vietnam. They outnumber the taxis, private cars, and buses and goodness, they run alongside these bigger modes of transport as if they were the same size! Day 1: Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) City Tour. Day 11: W...

Bittersweet reflections on stark realities. Monday, October 07, 2013. The Slow Down Challenge # 4: Disturb Me, Not! I’m joining the Slow Down Challenge initiated by one of my favourite writers Jeff Goins. If you want to jump in, here’s how. Decide what you will do and who you will be WHEN you get interrupted. You don’t have to let people steal your time, but choose your response before it happens. Nephew: What you doing? Nephew: Why are you working? Me: Because I have to. Nephew: Why do you have to?

bits of chocolate: Confessions of a First Time Backpacker

http://bitsofchocolate.blogspot.com/2013/10/confessions-of-first-time-backpacker.html

Bittersweet reflections on stark realities. Saturday, October 05, 2013. Confessions of a First Time Backpacker. Four months later and looking back, I’m reminiscing my first backpacking trip from start to end. Most of it, I’d already documented here on my blog. The whole process of reading my travel journal and re-writing it into several blog posts was meticulous and tedious but it brought a lot of good memories and valuable realizations. I think this is the very essence of travelling by backpack: to surv...

http://bitsofchocolate.blogspot.com/2013/10/day-13-exploring-cu-chi-tunnels.html

Bittersweet reflections on stark realities. Thursday, October 03, 2013. Day 13: Exploring the Cu Chi Tunnels. Our last full day in Saigon and of our whole backpacking trip. We booked for a half-day tour to the Cu Chi Tunnels. Same tour routine – bus picks us up at the hotel, takes us to the tourist spot, and takes us back to Saigon. Cu Chi district is more than an hour ride from Saigon. One of their hiding places cleverly disguised under a pile of brown leaves. Our last stop for the entire 13-day trip wa...

Oftentimes with a little hug and kiss, she would move on to finish the story. Now that I’m too old for fairytales, I do most of the storytelling. bits of chocolate: Day 3 & Day 7: Riding the Reunification Express Train to Hanoi and Back

Bittersweet reflections on stark realities. Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Day 3 and Day 7: Riding the Reunification Express Train to Hanoi and Back. When we booked our tickets for Vietnam, traveling north to Hanoi wasn’t part of the plan. Otherwise, we should have just booked a flight to Hanoi, traveled down to Saigon, and crossed the border to Cambodia (now that’s an idea! But after tons of research, I really, truly, madly. There’s also the bad. The soft berth section. For long distances, no. But a c...

I’m joining the Slow Down Challenge initiated by one of my favourite writers Jeff Goins. If you want to jump in, here’s how. I’ve been literally on a slow-down mode for the past four months. Canvas of Thoughts

Getting My Act Together. It's been a while, hasn't it? Well for one thing, I won't be talking about some guy that I fancy. Right now, I've been troubled by the fact that I might have accidentally burnt a bridge and not realising it all this time. I don't know if I did, but because it has been a Direct-Current flow I can't help but wonder if something was up. I have this strange feeling like something has shifted in our friendship. And not in the right way. Or has she just forgotten about it? To see her h...
