Tales told in 100 words. Vestige of a distant scent. Perfume. A strange sillage on the air. Just enough to jangle nerves but she wonders if it’s in her mind. Sullied by her own misdemeanours. A trepidation to mention, less it prompts a barrage of questions. Where were you? With him) and she doesn’t want that to spoil the joy he’s built up earlier for her. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Tales told in 100 words. It was an Edwardian Semi on the outskirts of town. It was the biggest house but by far the easiest to do on her books. Didn’t even need to take the hoover or the polishes in. Just a feather duster. That said there was a lot of bending. Climbing up on things. And unlike other houses where the owners made themselves scarce. He followed her. Watched like a hawk. She’d finished, smoothed her white frilly apron. These little touches set her apart.). 8220;Same time tomorrow then? And a...

Tales told in 100 words. He’d worked alone since father died unexpectedly in 1988. The calendar still there, his mother bought and father hung. Some traditions are buried with their owners. Others continue. Like the pendulums on the grandfather clock. His grandfather’s grandfather had begun. When the fashion was for fobs. A recent revival for well made wristwatches after a dishearteningly digital trend meant he could hardly keep pace. He looked then at what he made this time without winder.

Tales told in 100 words. 8220;You know I’ll never leave her.”. It was murmured into her neck almost like another whisper long ago. Another couple. Another affair. Almost went unheard because of the huge crack of her heart breaking. A magpie landed in the park, followed by another. 8220;I know,” she said hiding her sadness. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Tales told in 100 words. A single kiss at the end of a text. That in itself wasn’t unusual but she stared at it longer than she normally would. Before it plummeted into the chasm of deleted texts. Evidence erased. Often before the message has sunk in. But this. A small flickering screen in a shaking hand. Tomorrow The Zoo Meet you in the carpark. Bring C X. Another carpark. But to take Charlie? 2 thoughts on “ X. December 24, 2016 at 10:06 am. I was wondering what you would do with X! Liked by 1 person.

April 24, 2016. May 21, 2016. The lightning flashed, illuminating the fleeing figure as she streaked down the lane in red trainers. Thunder boomed, and the rain hammered down, soaking her jeans through and turning her long hair to wet rags which flapped out behind her like washing on a line as she ran. I wrote this piece a little while ago for a flash fiction competition which it didn’t win, so thought I would post here. Via a href=” http:/ photopin.com” photopin /a>. The Holly Bears a Berry. June 27, 2016. It was noon before I finally made it out of bed. I had woken with a thirst, and could not claw back the bliss of sleep no matter how hard I tried. The events of the evening before were returning to me in scattered fragments that I struggled to piece together. I opened the front door to take out the kitchen bin, and nearly tripped over the object that had been left there. This wasn’t the first time she had left a peace offering; what would it be this time? Inside the tin was a large chocola...

October 5, 2016. October 5, 2016. I wonder if perhaps I failed to capture the essence of the prompt word (which was calm) with this entry to last week’s Ad Hoc Fiction competition, but I just couldn’t help myself. Well I enjoyed writing it anyway, even if the feeling wasn’t shared by the voting public! It was no good. He stormed from the kitchen, letting the door slam shut behind him. Someone had eaten his prawn sandwich and he wasn’t about to let it go. There would be hell to pay. Posted in Flash fiction.

August 27, 2016. Here is another recent non-winning Ad Hoc Flash Fiction entry; the prompt word was ‘flex’. Just a Small Prick. I clocked him in the busy waiting area as I hurried through to my clinic room. He was berating the receptionist; something about parking, in a hurry to get to work. Isn’t everyone? I thought, hoping he wasn’t my patient. I showed him to the couch in my room, and took the form he thrust at me. No point attempting small talk with this one, I thought as I washed my hands. As I roun...

February 22, 2016. March 17, 2016. He glanced at the clock on his dashboard; how long had he been driving? He wondered. It felt as if he had been travelling for hours; he was feeling a little tired. He couldn’t recall seeing any road signs recently; perhaps he hadn’t been paying close enough attention. Which junction did he need? After a while he noticed that his hands were cold. He had left his gloves at home, or had he? Confused, he drifted momentarily into the next lane and another lorry came blaring ...

August 17, 2016. The moon hung as if suspended in the cloudless sky. A dog howled somewhere, and an owl shrieked in admonition, cutting through the crisp night air. The road I walked along was dark and deserted. This must be why she likes it here, I thought. I found the rock I was looking for and wrapped it in my scarf. August 15, 2016. She had Daisies in her hair, and Spring in her steps. Gelato and Long Walks. August 14, 2014. I don’t plan to update on my vacation everyday for recaps or anything, but I figured on what I left yesterday. Perhaps you’d be curious? The airline delivered it to our resort around 11:30 in the afternoon. And I was relieved. So so relieved. My things were all safely accounted for, which means we could start off the official first day smoothly. Afterwards, we went in for happy hour and I had two Shirley temples!
