Sun-dappled shade under oaken boughs. Give me clouds that look like dinosaurs. And stars named after the gods. Give me ink-stained hands and a paper route bag. Full of buckeyes, arrowheads, helicopter seeds,. And petals plucked for a girl I knew. When the world still smelled like roses. But give me also walls and a door,.

How vast the twilight's blue expanse,. Her ancient and forever dance,. Twined shade and shine and shadow prance. On cue in their celestial trance. Tomorrow, the stars may fall. How steadfast brave Orion's belt,. Upheld by God who order dealt,. That Pluto's ice fields shall not melt. Beneath the spinning spheres, I knelt. Tomorrow, the stars may fall. How red the bloody nails that scrape. The threads of night from heaven's cape,. And usher in a shining shape. At which man's eyes dare not to gape.
