Dedication to desiccation: Basic equipment: the dehydrator
http://dehydrationdoyenne.blogspot.com/2013/02/basic-equipment-dehydrator.html
Making tasty hiker food at home. Monday, February 18, 2013. Basic equipment: the dehydrator. Allow me to introduce the most important piece of machinery in this long, dry, journey: the Nesco American Harvest FD-61 WHC Snackmaster Express (including Jerky Gun). Chris and I decided not to invest in a top of the line dehydrator. Nearly four times the price of the Snackmaster Express) due to budget constraints and questionable marginal value. 2015 PCT prep, Van Livin', Small Boat Thrashing. All posts by hooptirida. On August 18, 2015. The hike is done at last. I made it successfully to the monument and then on to the Manning Park Lodge. I’m really, really glad to have it over and done with. At Mazama and the cool store there, I got a sandwich and did the visual equivalent of covering my ears and chanting “a la la la not listening! Did you read this? 8221; Ummm, no, and I’m going up. I cooked some breakfast atop Woody Pass, and I was thinking ...

2015 PCT prep, Van Livin', Small Boat Thrashing. There are a few questions that are consistently and deservedly popping up, so I’ll try to address them here:. What “style” are you following? 8211; Yes – 25 resupply parcels mailed out by my California mom, Inger. She’s second best behind my real mom. I’ll collect these at various points along the trail – the longest is almost 6 days between resupply. Generally about 4 days. High – I’m following Ray’s 4.25 month itinerary to complete ...8211; Homemade sili...

2015 PCT prep, Van Livin', Small Boat Thrashing. On August 13, 2015. So check this out…procrastinating the pack-up for the Rainy Pass-Manning Park hike and finish, I was idly scrolling through Facebook and saw a new fire closure….yup, Rainy Pass to Harts Pass! Fire started yesterday afternoon I guess, the Tatie fire. Unbelievable, and at a place called Rainy Pass to boot! Jimmy d, whaddaya think? There’s big mountains all around, and they get Seattle’s KEXP on the radio! What to do, what to do. Hey David...

2015 PCT prep, Van Livin', Small Boat Thrashing. PSA for hikers crossing into Washington. On August 14, 2015. Luna and Werewolf are two awesome trail angels I met when Luna tried to scoop me off the road in Carson, Washington. I ended up walking to their house, but they have a great space for visiting hikers. They’re not far off the trail, but directions are needed. Call them at 509 four-two-seven 4512. Recommended. Dedication to desiccation: Anatomy of a maildrop
http://dehydrationdoyenne.blogspot.com/2013/05/anatomy-of-maildrop.html
Making tasty hiker food at home. Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Anatomy of a maildrop. I think one of the most common question that Chris and I get from non-thruhikers is "How do you get food? The answer is some combination of grocery stores in trail towns and maildrops that I send him. Below are the basics of sending a maildrop. How do you know where/when to send it? How do you send it? Using the online shipping function actually gets you a discounted rate AND you get free tracking. What goes in it? 4 pages l...

Girl of the Wanderlust: Folks I'm Following
http://girlofthewanderlust.blogspot.com/2013/10/folks-im-following.html
Girl of the Wanderlust. Tuesday, October 1, 2013. I've been enjoying a number of PCT blogs, and thought I'd share. Thanks to everyone who's been sharing their journey and letting those of us off the trail live vicariously through them a bit! I met Legend on the trail, and have immensely enjoyed reading through his journal. The Trail Journals website has lots of folks, some more verbose than others. Http:/ www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?
