Foamie Finger Cups

Finger cups are a great way to get powerful launches. With your thumb on the leading edge and two fingers in the "finger cups" you can really give your wing a HEAVE! I can get 40 feet on a launch (with my 19 oz. XR Combat Wing - a little less with my light weight Zagi THL) using this method of launching. it's easy to install and cost practically nothing! Well, this tip will help your launches incredibly and if you are flying electric it will save your fingers from the prop!

I have been working with winglet design for some time now. I have used the stock ones, 2mm Coroplast and .016 carbon fiber ones. all in various sizes and shapes. Conclusion: Coroplast it seems is the material of choice. It weighs 1/3 less than .016 carbon fiber and 1/2 less than the stock plastic ones and is much stiffer and cheaper. (The CF was $38 a sq. foot!

Make your wing a "Convertible". I decided to add this page to my website because I do a lot of tinkering with Zagi's and other foam flying wings. Probably the most useful thing I have done is to make my wings "convertible" from glider to electric. The one I used for photos below happens to be an XR Combat Wing. I would not recommend the (full depth) battery. OTHERWISE: Use the stock 400X motor tray depth and cut the front of the tray off. The battery will then just pop out the front saving your beak!

EPP, carbon fiber and coroplast 2 Meter High Performance Thermal (and slope? Be sure to scroll down the page to see the major pod/boom re-design! OK, the Orange Un-Crushable. Proto #1) went extremely well. Now I will take what I learned from that project and apply it to this one. I again wanted to use Coroplast for the tail feathers even though it weighs a little more. The Tail on my #1 plane worked very well, so this one is nearly the same design, only a little better construction and lighter weight.
