To obtain free books from the San Diego Book Project, send us an email and tell us about your program and what you are doing to promote literacy. How do I know if I qualify to get free books? When I pick up books, should I bring my own boxes? Normally, we have some boxes available, but it is better to bring your own. Can I bring people to help me? Yes, but children under 13 are not permitted.

The San Diego Book Project began in 2007 by donating books to students at a local inner city elementary school, books that had been given to us by Don Brown and Ted Kehoe, the owners of Abookheaven, a local online book seller. We became a California Nonprofit Corporation in 2011, and received tax-exempt status per IRC 501(c)(3) the same year. To date we have given away over 750,000 books.
