Zen Agnostic: May 2011
http://zenagnostic.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 24, 2011. Just Don't Think About It. Above: a tree knocked down by Hurricane Ike in Louisville. A brilliant little bit of writing from Bill McKibben here: Caution: It is vitally important not to make connections. I spent the first 35 years of my life without experiencing a truly severe weather event. Sure, I saw some pretty crazy thunderstorms, missed school and work because of snow - but nothing like what I have experienced in the past 4 years. This spring I have seen multiple big storms he...

Thoughts and ideas about living sustainably. Tuesday, November 24, 2009. A little bit of good news about Coal River Mountain. I just read this blog item by Ken Ward Jr., dated November 20 from the West Virginia Gazette, which I quote in full below. But go to the link to read the comments. Also be sure to watch the video and check the link to I Love Mountains. To see videos about mountaintop removal and take action to stop this! EPA taking closer look at Coal River Mountain mining. Zen Agnostic: August 2011
http://zenagnostic.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 18, 2011. Zombies, Bureaucrats, Democracy, and Effective Action. A few things have happened over the past week. First: A friend came down from a 30 day treesit in West Virginia to stop a surface coal mine at Coal River Mountain. After reviewing the comments, TDEC actually weakened the proposed rules. Well Of course United Mountain Defense went out in costume and got turned away. The press ate it up. The question of the day is, what does successful activism look like? The only people who ...

Zen Agnostic: April 2012
http://zenagnostic.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 21, 2012. Came across this interesting post today about sick systems. It looks at relationships as well as organizations and employment. I’ve probably perpetuated some of these behaviors in the past, as well as been victim of some. And I’ve definitely worked at some businesses that displayed these characteristics. This reminds me of the 4 quadrants time management system. Wherein you divide up your tasks into 4 different categories:. IV Not Urgent/Not Important. For those who would like t...

Zen Agnostic: Changing/Resisting/Dismantling
http://zenagnostic.blogspot.com/2012/07/i-have-been-working-on-this-diagram-for.html
Wednesday, July 4, 2012. I have been working on this diagram for a few months now. It is certainly not complete or perfect - but here it is. Recently I attended a presentation by the group Deep Green Resistance. The concept of Land Based Resistance Oriented Communities was mentioned by the group and really appeals to me. A quick google of the term doesn't bring me any results so I do not have a quick way to explain what this concept means to me or to DGR. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Venus Pro...

Zen Agnostic: April 2011
http://zenagnostic.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 10, 2011. Because I haven't posted in a while. I've been around, doing what I do, just not writing about it on here. Most of my "hey cool look at this link" posting goes on facebook. I only generally post here when I have something longer to say and it won't fit in at Hubpages. But I've been working. Most of my extra time is now taken up by volunteer work for a local environmental nonprofit. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Urban Sustainability and Survival. Simple template&#...

I found this essay today:. What Disasters Reveal, by Junot Diaz. The author observes:. Disasters don’t just happen. They are always made possible by a series of often-invisible societal choices that implicate more than just those being drowned or buried in rubble. This is why we call them social disasters.
