This is the closest I’ll ever come to living in a space station. Thanks to Priceline.com I’m spending my last two days in L.A. at the lovely Bonaventure. Hotel in downtown L.A. and the place is cool and terrifying and bizarre and comfy. When you take the glass elevator to your floor you climb through the atrium gaining enough speed to burst through the glass ce...

Things of and pertaining to Rob Paravonian - All writing and photos 2004-2007 Paravonian except where otherwise noted. Saturday, February 12, 2005. Ah, Sweet Southern California. And I couldn't have had a better week to be out of the cold and frigid snow belt. It was 70's and sunny all week, I hiked up Runyon Canyon a couple of times, I got to hang out in the green room for a Jimmy Kimmel Live broadcast and I caught up with a lot of people. The woes of being a guitar-playing comedian. I talked Joey Edmonds, who put the show together, and he was telling me how great the tape looked and how much he enjoyed my set (I love it when agent/managers pump up your ego); but he was also able to slip in the fact that one of the industry people left the minute I pulled out my guitar.

Last night my show Life With Guitars closed at the P.I.T. And it ended on a really high note. For the first time in the four-Tuesday run I wasn't up against a Yankee game, there was a great, energetic crowd and I couldn't be happier. Didn't think so. I'll bring back souvenirs. It's been a steady creep of gentrification hitting all corners of NYC, a steady loss of the unique, quirky, and fascinating in exchange for the new, shiny and luxurious. It's a slow, steady movement, like that of glaciers or tectonic plates, but every once in a while a cataclysm erupts and it becomes glaringly obvious what's changed.

I went to Afghanistan. Or at least, I'm going to stop telling drunk and/or stupid people I went to Afghanistan. When I asked her to clarify what she meant, because I actually don't know many people who strongly oppose the action in Afghanistan, I began to realize that she was thinking about Iraq and not Afghanistan. She continued...
