All Things Practical: February 2006

And Most Things Not. Saturday, February 25, 2006. George Foreman (Not So) French Fries. FYI: you can also cook bacon on the GF, but it comes out a bit floppy and the slices stick together (to cook more than one on a normal size GF, you have to lay them in an X). But, it is far less smoky than on the stove. Posted by Sean @ 8:08 PM. Last night I made a custard-filled coffee cake, which is exciting as a concept and taste but not as a recipe. This is how I did it. Like chocolate chips, the custard just stay...

All Things Practical: April 2006

And Most Things Not. Thursday, April 27, 2006. Yesterday I went to Tim Hortons for lunch (first time) and discovered why there are fat Canadians. Obviously, there are fat Americans because McDonald's asks everyone, "Would you like fries with that? After ordering my sandwich at Tim Hortons (which was on the list of low-fat sandwiches), I was asked, "Would you like a donut? Well, I thought it was funny. And no, I didn't get a donut. And Most Things Not. Saturday, November 26, 2005. Posted by Sean @ 2:21 PM. Friday, November 25, 2005. Thanksgiving, Part Deux. To celebrate American Thanksgiving, a few friends and I went to the Canadian restaurant called Swiss Chalet. Oh the levels of irony. Then this morning (Black Friday), I went to Wal-mart and it was less busy than any given Saturday. Posted by Sean @ 3:50 PM. Wednesday, November 23, 2005. The trees, because the moisture condensed on the surface of them and fell. Flower to be pinne...

And Most Things Not. Friday, September 30, 2005. Probably the most unique thing about UVic is the awesomely large population of bunnies. Other places on Earth have rabbits, but here we have bunnies - the cute little kind that you may have for a pet:. I was thinking today that perhaps we should change our mascot from the Vikes to the Bunny. Sure, we may look defenseless, but you just go ahead and see what we are really made of. Posted by Sean @ 7:58 PM. Tuesday, September 27, 2005. Well, I know better tha...

All Things Practical: October 2005

And Most Things Not. Friday, October 28, 2005. Today I think I finally figured out what "marking" and "marks" really are. Mark=your score on an assignment. Why is this confusing, you ask? Because a problem worth 10 marks is marked and the mark is marked on the page. Being "worth 10 marks" and ending up as a "mark" is weird. I'm still confused about when a "mark" becomes a "grade" and what the difference is. Somehow every assignment gets a mark, but I get a grade at the end of the term (aka "semester").

And Most Things Not. Wednesday, May 17, 2006. The pork took about 40 hours to fix from start to finish. I bought 2 pork butt roasts for a total of 3.2 kg. Then I rubbed them down with a flavorful dry rub. And let that chill in the fridge for 24 hours. (Cracking peppercorns with a hammer is tons of fun.) Next they each went into their own Crockpot for 11 hours, each with 1/4 of the mop. I also made up the authentic vinegar and mustard based barbeque sauce. Unlike that horrible picture with the recipe)....

And Most Things Not. Sunday, December 25, 2005. Perhaps you have snow. Posted by Sean @ 5:44 AM. Thursday, December 22, 2005. As I was planning my trip to the hostels in Europe, I found that I need to have a combination lock to put on my locker. So, I dug out my Master Locks from high school, but the combinations for most of them were only written in one place and were stolen a few years ago. This left me with 4 locks without a combination. Well, the internet. You learn something new every day. I went do...

All Things Practical: March 2006
http://seandaug2.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html
And Most Things Not. Sunday, March 26, 2006. Today I drove down to East Sooke Park and out to Botanical Beach in Port Renfrew, 2 hrs away. Botanical Beach is an area of tidal pools with some pretty cool sea creatures growing in them. It's like going to an aquarium and peering down into the tanks from above. Pretty darn cool. Of course I took lots of pictures and posted some of the better ones on winkflash (email for details). Of those, I chose a few to put here. Where will I drive to next week? We hiked ...

And Most Things Not. Saturday, January 28, 2006. Orange Cinnamon Stuffed French Toast. This was today's breakfast adventure. First I took a loaf of french bread and sliced it into clamshell pieces. Then in the middle of each I put a mixture of orange marmalade (mostly), brown sugar (little), and cinnamon (less). I made 5 of these. Then for the egg mixture, I combined:. 1/4 cup orange juice. 1 tbsp brown sugar. Posted by Sean @ 10:45 AM. Wednesday, January 25, 2006. Either way, prepare to be enlightened.

And Most Things Not. Thursday, June 01, 2006. Last weekend Brad and I hiked the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail. From China Beach to Bear Beach. It made for a very nice 2 night trip, the first of which was spent at the China Beach Campground. And bridges made of huge fallen trees:. A nice suspension bridge:. A fantastic place to eat lunch by a creek:. Nice places to camp on Bear Beach (with floating towels):. And of course beaches themselves (Mystic Beach below):. Posted by Sean @ 11:40 PM.
