The curious task of economics is to demonstrate to men how little they really know about what they imagine they can design."- F.A. Hayek. The gay marriage debate is front and center. I posted my two cents on the matter here. Over four years ago and, revisiting it today I'd say certain excessive flourishes aside, I stand by what I wrote. I was cruising the internet today and I saw this headline at the Huffington Post ( here is the story. If you don't feel like wading through the morass, it boils down to t...

The curious task of economics is to demonstrate to men how little they really know about what they imagine they can design."- F.A. Hayek. Don't Call it That. I like language. I'm not an expert, rather a hobbyist. I like to play with words in order to convey meaning, tone, emotion and I enjoy writers who do well what I attempt futilely. Someone foolishly suggested that the words I was looking for were " coup d'etat,". The definition of which is (from dictionary.com):. Politics , especially. So my search c...

The curious task of economics is to demonstrate to men how little they really know about what they imagine they can design."- F.A. Hayek. Our Archaic, Idiosyncratic, Evil Constitution. As the nation teeters at the edge of fiscal chaos, observers are reaching the conclusion that the American system of government is broken. But almost no one blames the culprit: our insistence on obedience to the Constitution, with all its archaic, idiosyncratic and downright evil provisions.". The same Louis Michael Seidman.

It's Always Tuesday in Philadelphia: About this site

http://alwaystuesdayinphilly.blogspot.com/p/about-this-site.html

It's Always Tuesday in Philadelphia. This site is basically my blog. The name comes from a mash up of the title of a popular TV show based in Philly combined with the tendency for folks in my various online circles of actively trolling on Tuesdays. Hope you enjoy it. It's Always Tuesday in Philadelphia: September 2012

http://alwaystuesdayinphilly.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

It's Always Tuesday in Philadelphia. Ugh, what a rough night.  As I was going to bed, I felt the beginning of a migraine coming on.  For a moment, I thought about getting up and taking some meds. What bothers me most in a lot of articles is the broad brush an author will write with when setting up their main point.  Its a natural tendency, one that Ive succumbed to previously. It's Always Tuesday in Philadelphia: Playing with P Mode

http://alwaystuesdayinphilly.blogspot.com/2013/06/playing-with-p-mode.html

It's Always Tuesday in Philadelphia. Playing with P Mode. So I dabble in photography. I have a pretty nice dSLR and an extremely solid point and shoot along with my iPhone which can be handy and take a surprisingly good picture in a pinch. Anyway, my brother recently acquired the same dSLR that I have - the Nikon D5100. Love this camera. Great sensor. Lightweight. Lots of capabilities. Found a great link on Ken Rockwell's site regarding playing with Manual mode but in it he mentioned P Mode. It has a P M...

It's Always Tuesday in Philadelphia: Jaws

http://alwaystuesdayinphilly.blogspot.com/2014/07/jaws.html

It's Always Tuesday in Philadelphia. My youngest, who is now nine, watched Jaws for the first time last night. A couple of years ago I had her older sister watch it. The youngest asked why she had to watch. It's obviously a scary movie. I told her there were two reasons. First, I want them to learn how to get past fear - the oldest swore she wouldn't get into the ocean again after watching the movie but was in the water the next day. The second reason is it's an awesome movie. Just terrific.

It's Always Tuesday in Philadelphia. So today I will watch Magnum P.I. Specifically, Season 7, Espisode 6: Death and Taxes. My brother was nice enough to tape it for me years ago. Deoxit is the bomb. I think this may be my current favorite product ever in the history of the universe.  I came across it while researching how to fix pots on old stereo receiver. It's Always Tuesday in Philadelphia. Paying down the debt. Saw an interesting tweet today about paying down the deficit by getting rid of Alaska. We purchased Alaska from Russia for $7.2 million USD back in the 19th century. Surely it's appreciated. Of course if we focused on the gas and oil in Alaska (approximately 35 billion barrels of oil and 137 trillion cubic feet of natural gas according to this. Then the value jumps somewhat. Right now, a barrel of oil sells for @$84. Very cool Mac trick. I decide...

It's Always Tuesday in Philadelphia. A set on Flickr. Had some fun playing around with my new lens. Before there was Sheldon Cooper. There was David Byrne. The difference being, of course, is that while the actor playing Sheldon Cooper - Jim Parsons - may have some street cred because of the character he plays; David Byrne played basically himself observing a typical Texas town on the eve of its sesquicentennial in his movie True Stories. It's Always Tuesday in Philadelphia: Watching a friend die

http://alwaystuesdayinphilly.blogspot.com/2013/03/watching-friend-die.html

It's Always Tuesday in Philadelphia. Watching a friend die. So I've been watching a friend die. Slowly. By alcohol. (graphic account follows). This really pains me as my biological father drank himself to death. I don't need this shit. The other night was the last straw. He had cut his finger and was bleeding all over the bar. I just wanted a beer after having gotten back from driving my daughters home. Rumor is he took a Xanie in the bathroom. I could care less as he was bleeding on me. Picture Window t...

Who is the most influential public intellectual of the last twenty-five years? - Marginal REVOLUTION

http://marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolution/2013/06/who-is-the-most-influential-public-intellectual-of-the-last-twenty-five-years.html

Who is the most influential public intellectual of the last twenty-five years? On June 27, 2013 at 5:07 pm. A while ago I asked a related question. But my answer blew it on one major possibility. Doesn’t Andrew Sullivan have a reasonably strong claim to that title, especially after the recent Supreme Court decisions on gay marriage? Here is a current map of where gay marriage is legal. And very likely there is more to come. Pre-Sullivan, I would give the honors to Milton Friedman. June 27, 2013 at 5:10 pm.

Sean Eberhard's occasional mathematical musings. Monday, 9 February 2015. A few months ago on his blog. The purpose of this post is to extend Tao's construction to the nonabelian setting. Tao already stated in his post that this should be possible, so one could say that this is just an exercise in nonabelian Fourier analysis. On the other hand the proof in the nonabelian setting more or less forces a more categorical point of view, so certain points of this exercise are instructive. By a measurable group.

The home of athletes. NBA Powerhouses to much? This year in the NBA has been all about building “The Team”. First it started off with the big three in Boston. Then came the next big three in South Beach in Miami. With all the “Big Three’s” in the league this year it will be hard for teams like the New Orleans Hornets, the Denver Nuggets and the Utah Jazz to compete in the long run, even though every single one of those teams are a very solid team all around. Let’s talk about the Miami Heat. Come to town ...
