Sean Haffey: Nature at its most bizarre
http://sean-haffey.blogspot.com/2015/04/nature-at-its-most-bizarre.html
Sean Haffey lives in Hart District, in Hampshire. Monday, April 27, 2015. Nature at its most bizarre. There are a few, rare, " Aha! Moments in life: the first time you manage to ride a bicycle, perhaps; your first bite of chocolate; the first time you took a really good photograph. Now, if you were to say "I was petrified", meaning that you were rigid with fear you would be using a metaphor implying you were turned to stone, from the Greek work for stone, petros. So who is Wolfgang Grulke? Here is a disp...

Sean Haffey lives in Hart District, in Hampshire. Friday, May 22, 2015. The scoop on Hadrian's Wall. Building started in 122AD, on the orders of Emperor Hadrian who, having visited Britain, decided he needed a way of keeping out the Scots (or Picts or whatever they may have been called at that time). The bus service that travels the length of the wall is numbered AD122. The walk along the wall is 84 miles long. Especially when it has hailed on you for four hours. One of these ditches was called the vallum.

Sean Haffey: The accident
http://sean-haffey.blogspot.com/2014/12/the-accident.html
Sean Haffey lives in Hart District, in Hampshire. Tuesday, December 30, 2014. A post from my sometime correspondent, David Burke. Warning: somewhat gruesome . Working in Farnborough meant that it was easy to get home to Hook. However, before living here we were in Guildford and the journey was not so easy. It was a shocker really: the car was badly damaged and there was a lot of blood although I was able to clean it up afterwards. But it shook me up a lot. Put me off the route really. I pulled up quickly...

Sean Haffey: Cooking the Books

Sean Haffey lives in Hart District, in Hampshire. Friday, December 05, 2014. On 18th November, Premier Foods' Chief Executive, Gavin Darby, sent a letter to its suppliers. Requesting they pay thousands of pounds to remain on the supplier list. I like the idea. I am aiming to work with a smaller number of strategic suppliers in the future that can better support and invest in my limited grocery budget. I will now require you to make an investment payment to support my budget. Posted by Sean Haffey.

Sean Haffey: Short of Choice
http://sean-haffey.blogspot.com/2015/02/short-of-choice.html
Sean Haffey lives in Hart District, in Hampshire. Thursday, February 19, 2015. If you were to look at me, probably the last thing you would think is "He is fit", either in the literal or colloquial sense. But I try. I play badminton a couple of times a week and I walk most days. I even play tennis occasionally and as SWMBO and I are about to depart on a holiday I thought a new pair of tennis shorts might be a sound investment of a small portion of our life savings. Having spent 20 minutes looking for ten...

Sean Haffey: Nothing doing
http://sean-haffey.blogspot.com/2014/10/nothing-doing.html
Sean Haffey lives in Hart District, in Hampshire. Monday, October 20, 2014. In the next plan period, we need zero new houses in Hart. Here's why. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) the number of children each woman has is declining rapidly. This declining fertility rate will lead to lower demand for houses. Baby boomers are loosely defined as those born in the 1946 - 1964 period. Downsize (frequently moving to houses away from the London commuter belt). The divorce rate,. Which grew in...

Sean Haffey lives in Hart District, in Hampshire. Thursday, April 16, 2015. A personal guide to candidates in Hook's election. I'm 59: somewhat right of centre, politically; occasionally grumpy (my family might think this is a generous definition of "occasionally"); lived in Hook for 20 years; been a district councillor for 10 (2002-2012). So, for what it's worth, here are my views on the candidates for district councillor in Hook. In alphabetical order:-. Brian Burchfield, Conservative. It's not clear t...
