Manaia celebrated her sixth birthday with a party on Sunday 27th May. As she is a big nearly grown-up 6 year old now, I expect she will be starting her own blog soon (these kids today and their "interweb"! Uh-oh Recent earthquakes in the central North Island have authorities worried that Waihi may again be in a landslide risk, so much so that a historic Treaty Settlement. Handover which was due to take place there on Saturday has been moved to Hirangi Marae instead. As you may be aware, Waihi was the site of a major slip in 1846. I'd never been to the sleepy seaside town of Moeraki my entire life and then I end up staying there twice in 6 months. The first time we were in Otago was for the National Road Cycling champs. In October, this time I was attending a 3 day hui for Māori librarians based in the South Island. I got to spend time hanging out with other librarians from Dunedin, Invercargill and Christchurch.

Christchurch City Libraries are currently running a photo competition, looking for Christchurch images from the 40s through to the 70s. If any of you have got suitable images do consider entering them (you could win a digital camera), all the information is available on the library website. Yesterday there was played a rather unusual game of cricket at the Basin Reserve. As you probably know, the Tamairas are closely related to the Te Heuheu whanau who have long been the paramount rangatira of Ngati Tuwharetoa, but I've never been able to figure out exactly how until now.
