The berries are ripening about a week or two early here and I am not ready! We still have three jars of jam/jelly from last year! It's been a chore getting through everything I put up last year (and I gave tons away too), but it's a hardship I'm willing to endure. Have you ever seen this many watermelonberries in one place? Fieldwork, Travel, and Food. The adventures of an archaeologist and a geophysicist. Thursday, June 2, 2011. Home early with bad pushki burns. WARNING: There are some disgusting photos of my pushki burns at the end of this post, if you think they might gross you out, don't look! I arrived in Kodiak yesterday afternoon. My mom called the clinic to make me an appointment but there were none available. One very nice doctor agreed to see me after his last appointment. I am so grateful to him! Back of my right...

Fieldwork, Travel, and Food: Katmai Pass
http://odellcross.blogspot.com/2015/07/katmai-pass.html
Fieldwork, Travel, and Food. The adventures of an archaeologist and a geophysicist. Thursday, July 9, 2015. Leaving the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes. Despite the awesomeness of Katmai's caldera and Novarupta, if I had to pick a favorite place along our route, it would be the section from Katmai Pass to Observation Mountain. I had never seen any photos of this area, so it's odd combination of pumice, lava, and lush but spotty vegetation was constantly surprising. Mageik Creek and Trident Lava Flows.

Fieldwork, Travel, and Food. The adventures of an archaeologist and a geophysicist. I was born and raised in Palmer, Alaska. Palmer has changed a lot over the last three decades but the natural beauty of the Matanuska Valley has remained. The mountains and glaciers inspired both my career choices and my lifestyle. Over the course of a just a few months I finished my thesis, graduated with my MS is Geophysics, climbed Denali with two incredible friends, married the love of my life, and moved to Seattle.

http://odellcross.blogspot.com/p/our-house.html
Fieldwork, Travel, and Food. The adventures of an archaeologist and a geophysicist. The day we moved in! We laid down maple flooring in the living room and had carpet installed in the bedrooms. Just that little bit of color made the house feel so much warmer! The linoleum tile in the living room. Installing the hardwood flooring. The living room with new flooring. Ryan and his dad installing a window in the garage. Me, Ryan, and Keefer working on the roof. Installing chair molding in the dining area.
