Effectively, Chernobyl is the name of a Jewish village in Ukraine that was annihilated during the Second World War by the Germans. Hitler’s troops burned down 619 Jewish settlements, including Chernobyl itself. After the war, approximately 400 were rebuilt, but 186 would disappear forever.
