Riak Machar, the leader of South Sudan’s anti-government SPLM/A-IO has sacked two key generals, drastically changing the opposition’s military makeup. SPLM/A-IO passed the order today (Tuesday). SPLA-IO Major General Peter Gadet (seen above) has been sacked by opposition leader Riak Machar.

Up to the minute news, dicussions and reports from the experts on the ground. Tanzanian ferry capsizes, 12 dead. Posted on 11 January 2017. At least twelve people are dead after a ferry capsized off the coast of Tanzania. Police say 27 others were rescued, according to a report by Reuters newswire. The vessel was en route from the coastal mainland town of Tanga to the island of Pemba, which is in the Zanzibar archipelago of the Indian Ocean. Survivors of a capsized ferry in Tanzania wait for rescue.
