Should I Prune my Camellia japonicas into Trees? | SECRETS of a SEED SCATTERER
https://seedscatterer.wordpress.com/2011/09/30/should-i-prune-my-camellia-japonicas-into-trees
SECRETS of a SEED SCATTERER. Should I Prune my Camellia japonicas into Trees? Since 2005, this ancient camellia has grown over the edge of the driveway. I propose to prune it up from the bottom into a tree form rather than just heading it back. I’ve looked at tree-form Camellia japonicas online and believe it might be the better solution despite losing the blooms at the bottom. He-who-mows is supportive of my pruning projects. He did suggest that I start a few inches from the ground at a time. Seed Savin...

Loropetalum, not Laura Pedlum nor Lora Petlum | SECRETS of a SEED SCATTERER
https://seedscatterer.wordpress.com/2012/02/03/loropetalum-not-laura-pedlum-nor-lora-petlum
SECRETS of a SEED SCATTERER. Loropetalum, not Laura Pedlum nor Lora Petlum. One of the most frequent searches that land searchers on my blog is for ‘Laura Pedlum’ a fictional character if there ever was one. Is a popular landscape item in the south. Some of the banks in town have huge plants that are pruned into rounds and squares, flying saucers and Jackie Kennedy’s hat replicas. All that shearing cuts away much of the lovely rose to fuchsia fringes that make it stand out. Loropetalum is hardy in zones ...

Weed it and Reap. Where I journal my adventures in the garden, in the greenhouse, and reflect on and appreciate God's generosity. Tuesday, October 30, 2012. Right in the middle on the leaf that is the shiniest- a reward! I invited the neighbors over for lunch, and since she is an incredible cook, I wanted to make something that she has not likely cooked, that tastes really good, so I made Dill Pickle Soup You might say: Yukk! Weed it and Reap: Twilight Zone? or Plant Hardiness Zones
http://sproutsnknits.blogspot.com/2014/03/twilight-zone-or-plant-hardiness-zones.html
Weed it and Reap. Where I journal my adventures in the garden, in the greenhouse, and reflect on and appreciate God's generosity. Sunday, March 23, 2014. Or Plant Hardiness Zones. As I was going through my gardening books, I saw the Plant Hardiness Maps, and I recall that the Zone system for plants can be quite confusing for folks. The Plant Hardiness Zones are numbered from 1 to 9, where 1 is the coldest climate, and 9 being the warmest. This results in general areas. She was also fanatical about wateri...

Weed it and Reap. Where I journal my adventures in the garden, in the greenhouse, and reflect on and appreciate God's generosity. Saturday, March 23, 2013. We must really perplex God: he made us a perfect world and we have to change it. Imagine the conversation The Creator might have had with St. Francis on the subject of lawns. GOD: Frank, you know all about gardens and nature. What in the world is going on down there on the planet? ST FRANCIS: Apparently so, Lord. They go to great pains to grow it ...

I hope that title got your attention. So here I am, sharing some new things I'm trying from seed this year. The first one is called Spanish. A vine that can grow. Up to 15 feet. And the lovely Tecoma, known as Mayan Gold. And the vigorous Hyacinth Bean. The unusual Ptilotus Joey. And a new, almost-black Sophistica.

Two more seed orders came in, but there is no gardening to report, so I will share my collection of Impossible Recipes:. Healthy enough to eat for breakfast- as it bakes, it forms a soft crust, a custard filling and a macaroon topping. Lightly grease (or spray) a 10” pie plate. Weed it and Reap. Where I journal my adventures in the garden, in the greenhouse, and reflect on and appreciate God's generosity. Monday, March 31, 2014. So You Want to Start Your Own Plants from Seeds? This article was originally published in the newspaper in February. We are, in fact now very busy in the greenhouses. Have your seed catalogues come in, yet? For me, the seed catalogues are harbingers of spring joy, not of spring work. From saving money (? What equipment will I need. Some require as low a...
Weed it and Reap: Perennials or Annuals?
http://sproutsnknits.blogspot.com/2014/02/perennials-or-annuals.html
Weed it and Reap. Where I journal my adventures in the garden, in the greenhouse, and reflect on and appreciate God's generosity. Friday, February 14, 2014. Perennials above, annuals below. I always smile to myself when customers come to the greenhouse and ask me to help them choose plants for a perennial flower garden because they are tired of buying plants every year, and they want “low maintenance”. Those of you who have perennial flower beds know why I smile to myself. To clarify the issue, Perennials.

Secrets of a Seed Scatterer
SECRETS of a SEED SCATTERER: Seeds, Cuttings, Divisions, Tubers, Bulbs - growing in the Coastal South. Saturday, August 8, 2015. The Power of Lightning. Lightning destroyed a tree on our property on Thursday, an ancient oak with Spanish moss hanging from the branches. This tree, or one like it. This is the view I got when I drove into the pasture. Long strips of bark were ripped off and thrown several yards away from the tree. I drove around what was left, taking pics as I went. Links to this post. This ...
SECRETS of a SEED SCATTERER
SECRETS of a SEED SCATTERER. Papa Tomato and the Tomato Factory. How can I quickly tell the Papa Tomato’s story without so much background? Suffice it to say that I first had ripe tomatoes indoors in the winter of 2013 from plants started late summer 2012, on nice determinate plants that were meant to grow in containers. By the end of August, it was in the greenhouse corner. 5 feet tall, corralled by shelves and GH walls with a metal fence post and a piece of PVC pipe as stakes in a 4 gallon bucket.
