Fork in My Eye. Why am I here? What’s so funny? The Gulf Stream passes near here, a river of tropic water surges by just miles offshore just before it swings away into the massive Atlantic. It flings Florida conches and queen’s helmets onto shore, the remains of milder latitudes carried here like a message I’m not equipped to understand. But I keep trying. I’ll spend my life trying. Tufted treasure (or terror? Back in the woods. July 27, 2015. I’ve been back from New Zealand for four hectic days and we drove up to the cabin the day before yesterday. It’s high summer, of course a welcome change from mid-winter less than a week ago and the lake temperature is perfect for swimming, day and night. Pretty sure is a hybrid between the tiny reds. There is a mighty uproar of cicadas, making it harder to keep a cool head and a steady step. Sheer black walls of mountains to the left ahead. Early afternoon we arrive at a Khmu village and stop to rest. It is in the mountains, and at the foot of more mountains. Adults gather round for a chat. I suspect they. And went to one of the participant's houses for a potluck lunch. It was in the mountains about an hour from Albuquerque, and since her house is in the hummingbird migration flyway, it has tons of hummingbirds! Picture will be used for Feathers on Friday tomorrow).
