A year in a backpack: April 2007
http://carlytheexpat.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html
A year in a backpack. Friday, April 27, 2007. On our last night in Jaipur we went out for a night of "traditional" Rajasthani. When I say "traditional" I mean as fake and staged as it gets to give tourists "an authentic" experience. They had elephant and camel rides, dancers, traditional dinner served in grass baskets, etc. I was surprised that most of the guests were actually Indian, but later thought about it in terms of a mid-western. Family like mine going to Rawhide or Rockin. One of the dancers.

A year in a backpack. Sunday, March 16, 2008. Having been back for a few days, the most commonly asked question is where was the best place? Canoeing in the Kerala backwaters. Climbing a coconut tree. Swimming in the Ganges. Party till dawn at full moon party. Trek in Chang Mai. Visit waterfalls on mopeds in Pai. Tubing in Vang Vieng. Boat trip in Halong Bay. Camping in Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks. Sailing in the Whitsundays. 4-wheeling in Fraser Island. Abel Tasman National Park. I said before ...

A year in a backpack: September 2007
http://carlytheexpat.blogspot.com/2007_09_01_archive.html
A year in a backpack. Saturday, September 29, 2007. Brisbane to Byron Bay. My last post was from Noosa and it seems like ages ago. Since then we've been through Brisbane and Byron Bay. On the way to Brisbane from Noosa we stopped at a place along the way and went zorbing. Zorbing is rolling down a hill inside a big rubber ball with water in it. It was so much fun! Seet and I are inside this giant rubber ball rolling down a hill. Me and Seet at Cheeky Monkey's. Pete and Grace at Cheeky Monkey's. Getting t...

http://carlytheexpat.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html
A year in a backpack. Tuesday, February 26, 2008. A week in a hammock. Pictures added to post below! Seet and I have been in the Amazon for the last week and thus had little access to Internet. To avoid another blog disaster I reverted back to the old hand written journal. Stone age, I know! Sunday Feb. 17th 2008. Meeting of the waters. View from the boat on Day 1 of our Amazon tour. View from the boat on Day 1 of our Amazon tour. View from the boat on Day 1 of our Amazon tour. Sunset on the boat. I'm su...

A year in a backpack: January 2008
http://carlytheexpat.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html
A year in a backpack. Sunday, January 27, 2008. A string of bad luck, and some good stuff too! My last post outlined the beginning of my visa saga in Buenos. Is one of the few consulates able to issue 90 day visas, and thus the only reason I was waiting around for a week. The lady said, it's up to the discretion of the consulate. Apparently in my case the consulate decided to be and asshole. If I wanted a 30 day visa I could have had everything processed in Iguazu. The meat counter at Siga. Jon and I bou...

http://carlytheexpat.blogspot.com/2008/03/one-last-dose-sun.html
A year in a backpack. Tuesday, March 11, 2008. One last dose of sun! We are back in Rio now and fly to London tomorrow. What a year! What a year indeed! You and Seet have given many of use the opportunity to live vicariously through your "Year in a Backpack." I know this won't be your last adventure, probably not even your greatest, but your blog has kept us connected, assuaged our fears, entertained and amused us for the last 11 months. Thanks for taking the time to write. March 12, 2008 at 7:13 PM.

A year in a backpack: So this is where they hide all the hot men
http://carlytheexpat.blogspot.com/2008/03/so-this-is-where-they-hide-all-hot-men.html
A year in a backpack. Wednesday, March 5, 2008. So this is where they hide all the hot men. We did manage to get our deposit back from the other hostel, but only after I threatened to ruin the woman's business with complains to the Lonely Planet and every online hostel booking site. Ahhh what a little business threat will get you! Abstract Christ sculpture in Praça da Sé. Contemporary sculpture on display in. Seet and I with several of the capoeira guys. We returned to Salvador yesterday via catamaran...

A year in a backpack: July 2007
http://carlytheexpat.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html
A year in a backpack. Friday, July 27, 2007. Goodbye Asia hello Oz. We are now in Darwin and although we haven't done much blog worthy in the last week I decided I better update before people start worrying I've been eaten by a croc. Here's the last week or so in a nutshell. I blogged about this last time but here are two nice night pics I hadn't added. Fountain captured due to my new handy travel tripod. After leaving KL we headed for Malaka. They did, however, have the most decorative tuk. All served o...
